Play how YOU want.

After resetting my save recently I now only flying the Cobra MkIII I see no other ships that i want to fly. Even before the reset I mainly flew the MkIII, had a few larger ships but they were no fun at all.

Where is the challenge of being in a huge ship with mega rays of death?

Now, I've seen this happen with a few games (warframe, elite dangerous) basically games that have "metas" that stop you from playing however you want. Like a ship that outclasses all the others or a weapon that blows every other one away. However warframe has recently went through a "build how you want to" phase were people play the game the way THEY want, and have fun. Not trying to mid-max there way through everything.

I've come to the conclusion that elite should do the same, you shouldn't pick a python or conda because there big ships that do what they do the best, pick a ship that you like, that you want to fly! Even the crobra IV.

Tell me your thoughts on this commanders.

I CAN'T play the way I would like, I prefer PvP to mind-numbing PvE. IMHO there is a serious need for some PvP love, tarring all PvPers with the "Ganker" brush just doesnt cut it. My A spec Vulture now performs like a transit van in combat, I wish FD would you know, design some content that isnt a rehash of more broken system or an RNG time-sink. Also I would say that I have not purchased horizons and until FD sorts it out I will not be. How about they expand the core-game like they said they would? PvP is an integral part of ED, like it or not (to say otherwise is blatant lies) and should be expanded upon. So, I cant play the way I want because all the "really good" players (the rare ones I can find in open that is) either submit/boost/jump or cry and log........ How can you complain when you get interdicted in open, cant have your cake and eat it fellas.

Main challenge beside the tiny mailslots is not venting the entire entourage that comes with those huge ships into space.

Tell me about it! I like my car, and I hate walking around. I should be able to do everything with my car. I want to drive my car into the office and park it right at my desk, but it won't fit in the elevator! Magna Carta, my eye! Where is the freedom, eh? I should be able to drive my car around the supermarket with the roof down and load it up as I go like it was a giant shopping trolley, but the police call it "ram-raiding" and take me away in handcuffs every time I get it past the fruit and veg aisle! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help, I'm being repressed!

TL;DR = Stop that! It's silly.

The Clipper is my favorite ship in the game but like most of my ships it sits there and collects dust. Elite is about flying ships but I would love it if I could fly the ships I love as opposed to the ones best for the job. My hope is that large ships will be able to dock at outposts in the future or Engineers will have a module that allows me to dock at them. It doesn't have to change my ship. A module that just gives me permission to land the Clipper at an outpost will be good enough. I will find a way to make it fit. :D

The guy wants to do missions in a Clipper, and he can do them in a Clipper. He just can't do all of them in a Clipper, because it doesn't physically fit. The intelligence of that argument doesn't reflect well on it's creator, nor anyone who tries to argue it's merits.

Would it be hard to have a variety of missions so people could use the ships that they enjoy? Instead of only having the odd mission for stations have several of them. That way you can play as you like? I have done too many missions in the Python and Asp. Would love to use the Clipper for a change. Instead I decided to go out exploring.

Edit:

Oh and what is idiotic about it? Why can I not find as many missions to do in the Clipper? Because it is large? Is there a shortage of stations in the bubble? There are missions it can do but they seem very rare compared to what I can pick up in the Python.

Missions are generated according to the system's state and your local reputation.
I get a selection of 10-15 different missions across several factions in one Station (of 3 large ones) in Eravate (Allied with AA, Cordial with most of the others) at the moment. About 2-3 of them being "landingpad too small for your Corvette" locked.

I see you have learned how to post links, very good. Your parents will be proud.

Yea, now you slowly hower your mouse pointer over that underlined text, slowly press the left mouse button (left, that's "the other right") .. let me visualize to avoid unnecessaty confusion

(in case you're a Mac user, please refer to the specific forum for further assistance)

- don't run scared if another page opens, it's "working as designed" -, behold the wall of texts our usually quite grouchy friend Graxxor wrote in favour of the "pure PvP mode" of Elite, read trough his very keen reasoning, join him there and all your problems shall be solved.

I have no interest in capture the flag or team deathmatch or your limp wristed trolling for that matter. I'm interested in actual content on par with the PvE. Please dont bother to reply, I would hate to waste your time.

"But I want to land my 'Conda on outposts. FD fix it" FD : nope !
" I need 2 humongous hardpoints on my Python. FD fix it. " FD: nope!

Obviously you are limited to some game restraints, eh ? But you can actually play like you want. You dont NEED a 'Conda or Cutter, nice to have but not needed. Making credits in itself is an empty and meaningless goal in this game. I remember I wanted a Python, I cared craf how it flew or what it could do, I just wanted to sit in that sleek, awesome looking ship. ( I was pleasantly surprised, pre nerf WOAH !!). I got it and that was that. But I did not need it to play the game.
You want to bounty hunt? ok, dont do it in T6, you can but it will be uphil :D Get a Vulture or FAS.
You want to be Elite trader, you can in an Eagle, but I will be dead of old age before you succeed. Get a 'Conda or Cutter.
You want to be Elite Explorer, you cand doit in stock FDL, but I advise against it. Get an Asp.

You CAN do what you want :) You can even play against common sense and good advise ;)
The Galaxy does not care :)

Cheers Cmdr's

If "play the way you want" is only about the activity (missions, trading, combat), then everybody can play the way they want. But all activities have "the best tool for the job". 2.1 made using any ship that isn't "the best tool" much more difficult and in some cases simply suicidal.

If "play the way you want" is about flying a certain ship while doing certain activities, then "playing the way you want" has become very difficult bordering or reaching not possible.

2.1 introduced additional aspects (NPC flight pattern, spawn system; engineer mats and reputation) that make using certain ships a really bad choice for a lot of things.

(The new Sidewinder is absolutely wonderful, love it :) )

Yes I built up my rep with the station. I can find plenty of missions in my Python there but not in my Clipper. It isn't about money. My Python can haul 184t and my Clipper 160t. I can haul less in my Clipper but it is the ship I enjoy or would enjoy using.

It would be nice if instead of no missions or 1 mission there were a few or several so that those with large ships, including the Clipper, could use the ships they enjoy. Instead of having only 1 mission for stations and 5 for outposts maybe have a balanced number of each or have it vary depending on what type of ship you are in.

The way I see it is that would benefit everyone, many, or at least some? So why isn't there more missions for large ships? It could be a balance issue? Maybe it hasn't been given much thought because of being busy with the update and more important issues? It could be any number of reasons and maybe it can't be done for some reason that I am unaware of. It isn't the end of the world but there are probably at least a few who would enjoy using their Clippers etc for such things.

Silly! Just what do you think our Imperial Slaves are for? Daily task: Dust Clipper.

You mush down that clipper to land on an outpost... So ugly. No amount of dusting will help that.
