Play more - Grind less! If you feel to need to grind you are doing something wrong.

I have read alot of complaints about powerplay and ED in general being a big grind. And I dont really agree.

There are lots of fun to be had, but you need to stop forcing yourself into the grind. Because its not needed to succeed in the game.
Try NOT to treat the game as work and have some fun with it. The better gear, ship or credit balance is not a guarantee for succes.

Fun is a parameter for succes that most people seem to forget.

I have fun with PvP and did a little video on a recent encounter to prove that ED is more than just a grind. There is basis for excitement, action and fun.

Well if things would be achievable without grinding you'd be right. If you want your next ship you have to grind the credits for it- it just depends on you if you take the fast way, or the slow but a bit more entertaining way. But to achieve high ranks in PP you have no choice but to grind.

Nothing on its own. Its the complaining thats wrong.

The thing is - if people feel they are grinding, then very few seem to stop and think about it. Instead they continue while complaining or feeling discontent.

My suggestion is basically to start treating the game like a game.

That is all :)

You have to complete tasks to get there, thats right. But its your own decision if you want to "grind" to get there.

There are several ways to gain merits. And depending on your choise you get the options you want (are you a hauler type or a combat type of guy... etc)

I am rank 4 and never grinded to get there. On top, it takes an hour tops to regain decayed merrits.

Powerplays reputation is much worse than deserved. It all depends on your "angle of attack" so to speak.

it's only grinding because there is nothing else to do but 3 basic thigns that have no difficulty curve

Once you have a cobra, you can do everything easily.

Drat, I have obviously been doing it wrong because in engaging with Powerplay I have more than three things to do and some of them I couldn't do well, if at all, in a Cobra. However, I am prepared to learn, so perhaps you could tell us what these three things are and why a Cobra is a good enough ship.

All hail the glorious IMAGINATION!

Imagination is greatly encouraged in your use of the ship and modules. Also in your own gameplay.
If you dont - you may end up playing the game like work.

I think its human nature to instinctively and compulsively finish any task put in front of us.

My point with this thread is exactly that if you play it like a game (possibly with use of thought to maximise use of the tools) your experience will greatly increase!

Play more - Grind less.

There a still things that should be fixed to make pvp actually fun.
1. Submit interdiction exploit (even present in your video).
2. Logoffski
3. Working anti-griefing system.

1 - Its not an exploit.
2 - Hard to fix with P2P networking. Besides in my experience its (mostly) only Anaconda and T9 pilots that logoff. Rarely during combat with others.
3 - Griefing is subjective.

Well it is correct that it is my own decision. But it doesn't change that fact that you have no choice but grinding if you want to achieve rank 5. Complaining about mechanics that create such a grindfest cannot be considered as wrong complaints. They have a reason. If you'd have to do a lot of different missions to accomplish your goal it would be something different. But hauling stuff from A to B all day is just a simple dumb grindfest. I can not tell if it is possible to achieve rank 5 just with shooting down NPC's but that too will be pretty tedious.

But why do you want to reach rank 5 ?

There are very few benefits besides the 50 mill that you can make doing other things during the week.

Again - most grinders are helplessly doing it to them self.

STOP IT, and start doing something you like and work through the ranks having fun.

Well the simplest answer i can give you to this is that it is the highest rank you can reach in PP. Since i was eager to play PP and always aim for the highest achievable things, rank 5 was one of my "goals". Never achieved that since it was too grindy. Stayed at rank 3 and went out for the RP part i expected from PP. Been bored sometimes, sometimes excited. But all in all, there are parts of the game where you can not avoid to grind.

Well I only grind in the most efficient ways: Good missions or community goals. Both are not that common which is why I have spent alot of time doing nothing. Now I sit in my fully outfitted FDL and have a little courier in my garage for emergency situations.
I started to play PowerPlay just today and so far I earned 540 merits.

This is only possible because I grinded and it is a shame that it had to be like that.

In my opinion: grinding is necessary in order to really enjoy the game at its full potential. Especially credits grind is a hard one to do since missions are rank dependent.
Now I enjoy the game more than before because I can take part in PowerPlay and community goals. That wouldn't work well in a beginner Viper or an Adder.

You can't play pp without grinding. 15 merits per interdiction. 1 per ship in a pp combat zone. Pay 500k to advance pp cargo. Pp is grind.

And I say you are -doing- it wrong!

15 merits per interdiction is fine - why should it be more (easier?)
1 merit in combat zones are a bit too shallow - agree with you there.

Finally - you dont have to pay 500k to advance PP cargo. Spend the waiting time on a few smuggler missions or something like that. Make money WHILE you powerplay.

Why so hell bent on turning it into a grind when you dont have to.

But still 10000 merits are high enough to create a grindfest. Even when you are at rank 5 you still get 25(?) deliveries every x minutes. That is too low to not get grindy. Yes it shouldn't be easy to achieve rank 4 or even 5, but not with such a grindfest.

I have to agree with the OP. A while back when I was focusing on credits per hour so I could advance to that next ship, it was getting to a point of pure boredom and frustration because it was taking so long.
Eventually I found a couple ships I liked, -a nice vulture and the clipper- just stopped grinding and focused on playing. Found stuff I liked and even tried a few new things I had never done before. Funny thing is once I wasnt
focused on the credits per hour and grinding the money just seemed to flood into my account. True it was probably coming in a bit slower than when I was grinding, but because I was having fun and wasnt constantly looking at it,
the time passed faster and the money just built up while I wasnt looking. Before I knew it I had enough for a fully spec'ed FDL or python. Tried em both out, eventually decided on the FDL as my main ship, with my clipper for undermining
the Feds and went on playing. Next thing I know Im rank 4 with my power. And imagine my delight when I noticed I had more than enough creds built up to pick up my very first anaconda.

My point being, its a game and is meant to be fun. If you dont like the grind then dont do the grind, go find something you enjoy and have fun. You will achieve your goals before you know it. If grinding is your thing and thats what you like then go for it.
