Play the game to have fun and not to work to be a billionaire

Play the game to have fun and not to work to be a billionaire.

Unless the work to be a billionaire is fun for you.

What I am trying to say is just do what is most fun for you and do not worry so much about getting millions and the biggest ships.

Although I do know the early stages can be a bit of a hurdle to get a viper or cobra, but after that just enjoy these ships instead of working towards that type 9 or Anaconda. It is about enjoying the ride not just trying to be a billionaire as fast as possible.

There will be time a long time into the future to make the big bucks.

My friend has this mindset. He basically has been grinding mining nonstop, got his hauler first for it, then got up to a stripped down type 6. He was playing so recklessly, had about 80 hold full of metals, his hull was under 20%, but he kept trying to mine until he filled up his hold. He would mine an asteroid, then quit and reload to keep mining it, and it finally presumably loaded him into the middle of a space rock, he says he logged in and instantly exploded.

I told him he was playing way too risky, all his money wrapped up in that one haul. I told him to just relax and play the game, instead of just hardcore grinding till he got his asp ( which was what he was doing, as he didn't want to waste time in the "crappy starter ships" such as the cobra, which I told him was a great ship that he could make tons of money in doing different things).

So now he won't play anymore, claiming the game is just "one giant grind". Go figure.

A virtual galaxy you could never see the entirety of in a real lifetime, I think that should be clear enough that the game is about the journey and not an end goal (well besides actually hitting 'Elite' :) ). I'm really enjoying that my time in this universe is my own, currently bounty hunting, next week it might be exploration or trade. Then I will likely take a break but I'm perfectly happy to do so and then come back when I'm in the mood. Anyone playing this for a specific goal (money, ship, combat cred etc.) fair enough, but it seems a lot of the disappointment is from those who expect to be told just what that goal is and compete to get there first....And (imho) that is not Elite.

Im currently in a Viper, stuck in a cluster of ~10 systems because I only have a frameshift jump range of about 6.5 LY. So I've resorted to Bounty Hunting to upgrade to the best Powerplant so I can then buy the best frameshift drive. It takes forever, doing nearly the same thing, but at least it's fun.

I find trading in my Cobra loads of fun.

I am getting so good at docking with it, but see myself still improving.

Might try some mining next week, maybe...

Happy flying guys and girls :)

Teemo. It was only a matter of time until I found you out here in space. LOL first profile to make me smile that much =] This is a terrible story, the game will be what you make of it, and if he just wants to grind, then that is what the game will be to him. Personally, I really like courier missions and delivery missions. They give you the cargo, you go right to the place, you have a promised income and you don't have to worry about much. It is a safe steady approach to earning my way to the hauler or adder, and I am happy to do it because I know nothing could set me back really far. I hope you can convince your friend to get back into ED. It sounds like he has motivation, he just needs to play a tiny bit safer to account for the fact that the game still has bugs because its new so he should have insurance savings. And he should try a mid level ship. Losing 10% of its value is nothing, when you consider how much more profitable every run will be. Stepping stones like this also break up the grind, and who doesn't love getting into a brand new ship.
