Play your way - any interesting ways you are playing on PS4?

A great thing about open sandbox type games is that you can play any way you want. Elite gives us a lot of options even within a general direction. So, what are people planning to do differently on the PS4? Or are planning to do if you are just entering the game?

For me, I'm going to start with FA off and try really hard to never turn it on. I have only used it for some quick turns in combat to help with the jousting. Once I learned with FA on, I did not want to take the time learning FA off. Will it make me a better pilot? Probably not, but should provide some entertainment and probably some frustration.

As a new player entering Elite Dangerous on PS4, I think the first thing I'll do (while trying to learn the game and staying alive) is to try to visit all the interesting destinations the game has to offer like Sol, Leonard Nimoy Station, Vulcan, Fishers Rest, All the different Nebula and eventually Sagittarius A when I have more experience and a better ship. If i really get into ED (and I know i will) Ill try to platinum the game (get all the game trophies)

Having never played ED but being a big fan of Elite back in the day I am not 100% sure. I will just see where the game takes me. Looking forward to trying all the things the game has to offer. Probably boring as in nothing new that others have not done before me. I am assuming if the Xbox achievements are to go by the Platinum will be nigh on impossible but i'll give it a good go. :)

I can see me sinking ridiculous amounts of hours into this game, the missus won't be amused. :)

Wouldn't mind a little RP to immerse myself in. Maybe I'll try that. Might try mining also since that has changed since the game launched too.

As an astronomy buff, my primary interest is exploration. I guess I'll familiarise myself with controls and the general economy of the game by doing a few days/weeks of trading--also to get enough credits to get myself a decent ship. But then I'll want to go out and about.

This is the primary reason why I am so excited about this game: even people like us, entering this universe 2+ years after it was opened to players, have the chance to discover new stuff. It's something that manages to give a vague but tangible idea of the mind-boggling dimension of the galaxy (not to mention the universe): even though there are committed explorers like Obsidian Ant who've been travelling far and wide for years now, there are literally hundreds of millions of systems that remain unexplored, and new sights to be seen.

On top of that, I am really keen on the community-driven aspects of the game. Had the game been available to me, I'd totally have contributed with the Colonia expansion, for ex. But I am sure there will be plenty more to contribute to in the future: rumour is that soon-ish (by the end of the year?) something more concrete regarding the Thargoids will become apparent: can't wait for that. Also, I'll try to join the Fuel Rats.

May I respectfully suggest that you guys join one of the many groups available - there is a wealth of knowledge available to you - it is common to find people who have sunk thousands of hours into this amazing game... There are well known groups, such as Canonn or the Children of Raxxla, and smaller more focused groups such as DRX for exploration. I'm biased of course... There are groups spanning PC, Mac and Xbox and many will have members who will share tips and tricks to help you along your way. The ED community are a friendly bunch, although there are places to avoid too. I heartily recommend joining the social media sites too - Inara and Discord to name just two. Both allow you to freely communicate across platforms and join in with expeditions or activities when you can't physically see each other..

How many other games can claim that the development team are players and active community participants? Prepare for this game to take over your life. See you in the black.......

I fully intend to join groups -- the problem for now is that those I checked out (Canonn and Fuel Rats) all require to register with one's in-game commander name. Now, it's true that we know that we're gonna have our PSN name as commander name, but it feels silly to register even before having the game... I'll do so the first time I actually log into the game :)

Greetings PS4 Players: If you start Elite the first time, you are limited in what you can do. E.g. visiting SOL requires a specific Rank in the Federation, and Mining requires a decent ship and gear, which costs money, you don't have. I would recommend you doing basic missions between nearby systems and increase reputation with minor factions. Also killing pirates near Nav Beacons could be a good option to get money. best regards, neonoxDE - Xbox CMDR

thanks for the heads up

I will be carrying on my pirating career, can't wait to get my hands on the PS4 players. As on the PC I will always be non profit, what I steal from the rich I will be donating to the poor :)

At least let me get out of my sidewinder first. What is your PSN id? ;)

Yes - much thanks for the heads-up. We (PS4 players) are already looping in on the Youtube vids etc. (or if you aren't, you darn well should be!) but i wonder what, if anything might be different in the PS4 game? I know Frontier are talking it up as 'same or similar' but there are differences in the limitations of a console vs a PC. I am unfamiliar with the XBOX version so i have no idea how different the XBOX is to the PC? So i guess we will excitedly find out when it does go live but my concern is that we get too invested in a particular type of game play based on a build that wont exist on PS4 (at least initially). The core dynamics will clearly be there so I figure I will certainly enjoy as much of the game as i can depending on what the game play thrashes out like in the version we get. As i posted elsewhere - provided i get HOTAS controls and VR support i am in LOVE!!!

The PC and Xbox version are the same. Only difference is the graphic, for example: planet surface is much more detailed on PC as on Xbox. Expect the same for PS4. PS4 Pro might get 60fps OR higher details. DON'T expect VR Support, there is just not enough power. The PS4 Pro MAYBE could provide enough power for VR support with very low details, but Sony doesn't allow "VR only for PS4 Pro". I don't know how HOTAS work on PS4, but there are good chances for support of them, because Elite allows you to fully customize your control settings.

I think reading between the lines on the PS4 faq at Frontier support page pretty much confirms for me that psvr will be supported, at some point (we may even know for sure in 10days).

The base ps4 has plenty of power to run good looking space games like elite. If you haven't tried eve valkyrie or battlefront vr mission, you should. Great looking games, bodes well for elite.

Thanks for that ...wont take me long to get mining im sure

I play on Xbox, and can confirm that, as far as I'm aware, there are very little differences between that and the PC. We have all the same content and can go to all the same places. In fact, some recent discoveries in game were made first by Xbox players.

I used to play a variety of games but I can honestly say that ED just gets under your skin. I've not played much else since starting back in May last year, and I'm originally a PS4 player. (I bought an Xbox just for this game!) It seriously will be in danger of taking over your life. During the normal working day its easy to find yourself thinking about ship builds or areas you want to head off to and explore or ways of making your next million credits.

I'm privileged to be part of a great group of players (DRX) and can confirm that we would be more than happy to welcome new PS4 commanders to the fold. And as my friend and fellow commander JT442 has already mentioned above, your going to be so impressed at how much the Dev team get involved with the players.....

Nice post mate. I honest believe this game will get under my skin, as it has yours! Been watching some Xbox footage just to get an idea of what to expect on my PS4 and it really does look gourgeous!
