Player Bounty Value/Missfire Connection/An Appology

I've recently started to take baby steps into pvp combat, and so far I'm a bit... not "disappointed" as such... more... concerned?... I guess?...

All of my fights have gone one of two ways. The first, by far the most common, is I very quickly have my rear-end handed to me in a smoldered mangled pile of ash. Practice makes perfect I suppose, and I haven't engineered anything yet so I have that to work on too.

The second outcome is what I dub "the bottom feeder", where I find a hurt/crippled commander and use that to give myself a bit of a handicap advantage to even the odds. I have to start somewhere, right?

Anyway, now for my "concern". So far I've won 3 fights (all "bottom feeder" brawls as you may have guessed). The thing is that ALL of the victories awarded me with 150 credit bounty claims. This is the exact amount of bounty put your head for an accidental missfire on a neutral target. The guys I killed had Pythons, one even had an Anaconda.

These guys did NOT deserve death, and I deeply regret picking them off. A stray accidental bullet scratching the paint on a system authority vessel should NOT be awarded with a head hunt on that player. It's completely out of proportion, and accidents happen. Because of a combination of both my own actions and the game's silly analysis of what justifies the death penalty, these players were hit with huge rebuy costs AND lost all their bounty claims (we were in the current bounty CG system, so they lost all their progress since they last docked). They were already hurt, so they won they their original fights fair and square. Had I known they weren't Jack the Ripper reincarnated and in fact were only caught littering, I never would have taken so much from them.

If any of the three of you are reading this, I sincerely apologise and take full responsibility. However, I feel I simply MUST ask, why are the dogs called over a simple accidental scratch on the paintwork? These players were plastered with big red lights saying "KILL ME AND WIN A PRIZE!!". It's just not called for, and I think that a hefty fine would be a far better disiplinary option.

They got what they deserved if they stayed in the system where they were wanted in open. they could have easily jumped out, waited the 8 minutes and jumped back again. They were just greedy, like those NPC miners in the haz RES that go straight back to mining with 3% hull, waiting for the next elite Anaconda pirate to finish them off.
 
As good as it would be for trivial bounties to not open people up to ganking, any attempt to change it would probably create more problems than it solved.

Also, you're really going to want to work on engineering. Without engineering you won't stand a chance against anybody with a ship set up for PvP (or just a decent PvE ship), regardless of their skill.
