Horizons Player built and owned stations

With all this space in our universe, wouldn't it be nice if we could purchase and build stations like you could in X-3? Just a thought.

Assuming you mean full size stations, outposts and planetary stations.

1) Player built = Check out Obsidian orbital, community goals already have finished creating new stations

2) Player owned = It'd be pointless.

Stations have - Shipyard & Outfitting, fuel & repairs, weapons and docking permission.

If you put discounts on fuel/repairs they are so cheap it doesnt matter anyway.
If you put discounts on shipyard/outfitting it'd pretty much be "pay a large 1 time lump sum to save money in the long run"

Neither of those to me categorise "ownership" as discounts (Li Yong Rui etc) already exist.

If you give people weapon control and docking permission it turns into griefer's wet dreams.

Visual customisation can't be done as all art has to be put into the game and with over 1mil players it's just gonna get crazy very quickly.
Devs have said they don't want to make it Elite spreadsheets and fleet management so you can't get credits over time.

Further to the station ownership problem: How does it transfer, how can owners of stations survive attacks/challenges from solo/group players. Or players in different instances or timezones. It sounds to me like it'd provoke a lot of hurt especially given the cost anticipated to buy a station when we look back and see 4000+ players were involved in building 1 single station.

Now, all that having been said I don't see why you'd want player stations as any control would be so limited you may as well say "hey, this station over here is mine".

Now, onto point 2:

If you mean player asteroid bases that's still on the plan.

[h=3]Can I build an empire and own space stations and fleets?Edit[/h] You will be able to own small inflatable asteroid stations as depicted here as part of an update, but you can't own large stations, build empires or own fleets, since that would change the nature of the game. For example, why would you pilot space ships yourself, when the most efficient way to make money and progress in a game is to sit back in an office and hand out commands? It's also problematic from a lore and immersion standpoint, since the game is simulating realistic societies, social structures and time scales, so building an empire would involve a lot of resources and politics that only big nations can afford and would stretch over months or years, even building a large space station can take a month or more. So as an Elite federation pilot, you will only be able to aid in building empires and large space stations through Community Goals, by taking missions to transport resources and defend them, but you are too low on the social ladder (not important enough) to be able to command or own these kind of things. That said, you will be able to hire NPC wingmen and escorts and give them simple commands, but you won't be able to own or remote control them directly.

That would be awesome, then we could have guild stations that allow guild storage for ships or commodities, guild trading of engineer mods and ingredients. This would allow those that like to explore to explore and those that like to battle battle to get the ingredients and those that like to trade supplying the guild station with fuel, products. Explorers could build outposts that could refuel and repair their ships allowing them to push further and further out into the universe.
Player owned stations would open up a ton of possibilities. For those that worry about griefing the solution is too simple. Guild stations can be set to allow docking for everyone, friends, or guild only and the defenses work just like NPC stations. Maybe a small landing fee for other players to access player owned stations, this would encourage open stations. Maybe not even a tax on the player but a payment to the station by the pilots federation for allowing commerce. If you request docking to a player owned station then if granted you dock if denied then if you dock you get shot. Same if you attack a player owned station you get hammered just like an NPC station. You aren't denied access to the system and the fact that there is one station in the system that you don't have access to who cares. Only the most selfish lowlife troll would care there is some tiny station they won't even see unless they drop out of super cruise right on top of it on purpose. I mean you would have to be pretty petty to give a crap about that wouldn't you!

Not to disappoint but P2P trading/credit-transfer has been repeatedly suggested and not included by the Devs, they have their reasons and there's a number of threads. Save to say I can't see it coming anytime soon.

Ship storage is already in every station.
Commodities storage is coming soon for everyone apparently with 2.3 but I could be wrong on that.

So I'd ask what differentiates it? What makes it player owned? What makes it different to me saying "Wollheim Vision is my home base"?

Also looking at previous "build a station" community goals there' only 2 or 3 player groups capable of having the manpower and dedication to get anywhere close to managing something like that.
Mobius has the numbers but not the dedication, too many moving in different directions.
Hutton Orbital truckers have the dedication and arguably numbers but probably not the willingness (they have Hutton after all).
Explorers are too fragmented despite having the numbers.
Other groups I don't see having anywhere near enough members unless I've forgotten someone obvious. Perhaps the Russian or German Commanders but I can't say I know too much about their size and co-ordination.

I honestly can't see any group capable of generating 34,000,000+ tons of materials with over 8,000+ active contributors.

November 2015 tab -> Among the stars: supplying services
And
October 2015 tab -> Among the Stars (trade/mining)

Edit: Yes I looked it up, I was intrigued to see if it'd be possible given some of the player groups are fairly large now.
