Player commanded Capital Ships

It would be very cool if players could command Capital Ships. And yes, there are already Fleet Carriers, but they are not as mobile as Capital Ships and they are more of Megaships than combat vessels. Capital ships could be bought for lots of credits if the player has enough reputation within a superpower and then commanded and managed by the player. They could be customised just like regular starships (for that I mean weapons, modules, etc.), except for livery. They would keep the color of their superpower. Additionaly, I have an idea for the Odyssey DLC, Capital Ship bording. My concept of it is that during a Superpower battle involving Capital Ships there could be boarding teams and the player could either board the enemy Capital Ship, or defend the allied Capital Ship together with allied soldiers, or of course fight in his own ship. A succesful boarding could either lead to gaining control of the enemy capital ship or to setting the enemy capital Ship to self-destruct and quickly escaping. There also could be missions involving Capital Ship Covert Ops. The goal during such missions would be destroying docked or standby Capital Ships by boarding them and then escaping.

Fleet Carriers are capital ships. ED devs may not have realized they also created space station ownership with FC... much larger and more mobile than outposts.

How should Minor Factions and Squads feel about this? If were me I would be ... angry maybe... WTH, did not FD consider what Fleet Carriers for individuals do to the meta-game? No, typical FD oversight that could be fixed by listening to their worst critics with the requisite grain of salt. Yamiks is such, too salty but also has very useful feedback. FD devs are amazing but DB and producers and CM team are obtuse and very very hard to understand.

In some ways, this sounds ok. However, Elite: Dangerous, indeed none of the Elite games (at least not the three I've played) have really been about executive control of such ships - and are arguably the better for it. It's more about the 'Han Solo' type of experience than the 'Captain Kirk' type. It could be argued that the introduction of Fleet Carriers have started to take us down that path, but in my opinion these probably should have stayed in the originally proposed form - Squadron carriers rather than for individual CMDRs to own. If Frontier were to implement capital ship control, I would argue these would need to be Squadron owned, not at the individual CMDR level. I do agree the idea of capital ship boarding and such would be cool, and a great idea for Squadron vs Squadron combined arms combat scenarios.
