Player death - re-spawn locations

So we have had it confirmed that a player can either respawn in their ship (in outer orbit) or at a station.

My burning question is - if we did a mission like the CM's walk through... and a player who was transported there within another player's ship died in the mission - where do they respawn?

A) In the wingbuddies ship?
B) In their own ship out of orbit?
C) Station?

It would be a nightmare if they went back to the station.

Really burning issue. Can't you wait until March 29th?

I think it should be outside the base. How annoying it would be to get aborted from a mission that a minute before you were having problems with, and resulted it death. It will be just as infuriating as the current detention systems are now.

Id suggest some sort of invention to enable respawning at bases. We don't die for joy.

Why would it be a nightmare if they went back to the station. All they have to do is jump on 'Apex Travel' and fly back to the base.

Actually this is a really important thing to get right.

If I am playing with my team and I die its going to be really frustrating getting sent back to the station, to me it should be back to the ship so you can stay with your "team". However I can see others wanting instant/timed respawn (respawn points?) or healing/resurrecting which makes no sense in solo. In solo it makes sense to go back to the station because you died and effectively lost everything. If you arrived at the settlement in the SRV should you respawn there.

This is going to be a difficult one to call and will have a major impact on how it plays.

I say back to the nearest station period. I really hate fps games where you kill an enemy player (not npc) and 5 seconds later they pop out of one of their squadmates butts. Incredibly frustrating! If you die, there needs to be a time and distance penalty... So play smart and don't die and you won't have to worry about it.

I suspect it will be the station. There wasn't any option mentioned of respawning in the ship * on the ground * just in orbit.

So lets say it's not your ship, you get killed, you're not going to respawn on the ship on the ground with the other team members still fighting.

More importantly, if the owner of the ship is killed, do they respawn in orbit and the other members of the team are now abandoned :D

Maybe if you pay enough cash to the right people, you can get a helmet that decapitates you and then flies your preserved head to a nearby destination of your choice, where someone can dunk it into a body-cloning vat.

Most good fps shooters keep the action continuous and engaging by re-spawning you close to the action so that you have a continuous action feel to the mission /game.

This reminds me of playing a game where it only saves at check points and at times you have to replay the same segment over and over to get thru a tough part.

We were told that they died many times to make this short game play recording, I can’t imagine repeating the same part of the mission over and over like going to the planet landing ship just to get back in the action.

I have this burning desire to test the results of asking a squadron mate for a 'lift' (when having notoriety 10 and a big bounty from the controlling faction)...

Ummm... Will you be playing the alpha?

We can always hope someone who's name begins with H and ends with ans will be? He's always up for the science! ;)

I was waiting for the "I'm washing my hair that day!"...

I'll give him a nudge, for science, of course :ROFLMAO:

Well, there's a good chance I'll be washing my hair that day anyhow, especially if I knew the date in advance...!!
Mr Wijn is always up for testing science, especially if deceived into believing it is for something else. Which as a scienceist, I can tell you is the core behind any sciencisms.

Why not? That's exactly what happens with ship missions. If I die in a CZ or a massacre mission my rebuy is at the last station I docked at, and I need to jump & supercruise back to the mission/action. If I die and my wingmates are still in a CZ, I don't respawn after rebuy right outside of the CZ.

It would also be comparable to some massive multi-player missionish FPS games - I'm thinking of the different Battle Royal scenarios in CoD in particular. If my squadmate dies during the action, they need to wait until I can get them back into the fight (which can take a bit sometimes) and even then they do not spawn right on top of my fully geared up.

It will be interesting to see how FDev balance all the different possibilities. Sure it may suck if you're the only wingmate to die and you respawn in orbit and have to make your way back down, but then that might mean your role has suddenly changed. It would also suck if there are settlement scenarios (like the ship installation scenarios) which end up with players on different sides and your enemies keep respawning fully geared up ad infinitum right where you killed them.
