I've been playing ED on and off now since the beta, and I've mostly just been minding my own business travelling around from place to place buying and selling goods. Basically I'm doing what I did in the original Elite, FE2 and FFE. Taking food from agricultural worlds, sell it to tech worlds, bring back harvesters... That sort of thing.
During my travels I see the occasional player while docking or in SC. There's never any interaction, and I've only been shot at in the starting system when I reset my save. Usually my interaction with players is "Oh, look! A player." and then they're gone. Maybe it's because I don't really hang around any one place for long, I usually just pop in to trade and head off somewhere else with a cargo of whatever, but I'm starting to wonder where everyone is. I know the game is vast and there's lots of systems, but I read the forums a lot and see all these comments about griefing, ramming when docking, etc, so where is it all happening?
I recently passed through the Sol system, expecting it to be quite busy, but I saw only 1 or 2 players. Obviously time of day has an effect, and I do tend to see more players in the evening, but I'm getting a bit bored just aimlessly wandering around the galaxy and I wouldn't mind a bit of interaction, even if it's just a quick "hello" on my friends list (I had a few friends during beta but it looks like most of them have left for one reason or another) something to make me feel a bit less alone in the vastness of space.
So, the question, and really the point of this post is, is everyone gathering around a group of systems, or is everyone more spread out?
