Player hangers on stations

We should be able to rent a hanger for storing things like ship mods and minerals and ores and oddities, and eventually when we can land on planets and such will have other things we can store if or when we can form guilds/chapters/fleets in the game then the group could rent hangers on stations to store things that we want to pass along to other members.

I know eve has this type of setup and it works real nice.

Eventually it would be nice to be able to rent things on stations such as research facility's, Factories, shipyards so we could actually build our own ships.

Just some thoughts.

Why stop there?

I would love to set up player driven commodity or black markets on existing stations. You rent certain amount of storage space from the station. You set what items you want to trade with and within what price range. You transfer some money to start the business running and do a little marketing to attract traders. You could hire a player wing to patrol the area and keep pirates away etc.

The other thing would be to create something like a Clubhouse, Guild office or similar. It would be accessible from the main station menu under contacts, Offices. Imagine like the GSN board with 2 threads. 1 public and 1 closed. If you are a member of the group, you can see and post on both threads. Everyone else can read the public thread. While it is not much, it would add a little soul to the game and would make certain stations worth visiting.

I know there's some concern about people stockpiling commodities, so you might find limits enforced, to the amount of space that any one player is allowed to lease (maybe an Elite Pilot's Federation rule). That said, some nice ideas here, I particularly like the idea of research labs myself (could you stockpile exploration data, renting "virtual" storage facility, a safestore database, as you scout the local area before ferrying the data out for pay day?). Let's hope ED continues to be successful over the coming years and that some of these, bars, workshops (maybe anything except, "an apartment!!) come to light.

+1

The resources in this galaxy are SOOOOOOO abundant, that saving huge piles of anything is irrelevant.

The only reason to stockpile stuff would be to create a shortage and bring up the price, but that would not work

- You can't create a shortage of any kind in this game. I don't believe there is any player that would be able to buy, say all items from each station in a 40 LY radius.
- And even if he did, that would just mean the traders would jump 2x instead of 1x. Bo hoo.
- Finally, you don't need anything to produce anything in this universe. Stuff just pops out of thin air without consuming anything so there is no supply-demand. Since the prices are artificially set by FD and does not follow any real life logic, prices would not go up all that much if any.

Having some kind of a space to just chill outside of the ships would be most welcome - and probably the only feature I can think of that's truly lacking in this otherwise amazing game.

I would be happy to bet that the only feature the game is lacking (according to you) is already in the pipe ;-)
That and the only feature the game is lacking (according to me)… Planetary Landing
Cannot wait

All good Ideas up above and im pretty sure the devs are working tirelessly on planetary landing but that's a big project not only do you land on a planet but they have to create the content data IE creature/NPC spawns, resource spawns in interaction and a ton more stuff, the hanger ideas could use the same mechanics as the planetary landings for being able to move around inside a station heck even inside your own ships eventually.

I like tossing ideas around here keeps me sharp and the creative juices flowing as well ;)
