Player interaction

I'm not sure if there is anything more controversial then fleet mechanics and guilds (especially when the poster has a distinctly Eve-like avatar). So ... here we are, having this conversation again :)
Me having an EVE avatar has nothing to do with this.

I simply believe the game would benefit from having people actually work with eachother instead of having everyone do their own solo thing, not everyone wants to be yet another explorer because it's the only thing that has some level of change, mainly from the "Storyline".
The game shouldn't be all about seeing the deepest depths of the darkest corners of the galaxy, I strongly believe simple things could make an impact on the game, it would certainly give an incentive to work together instead of leeching off of your buddies' income.

Cool to know you can read my mind, I possibly couldn't have meant "In my opinion this is how to fix and make things better".

What you actually said was, "The only way you can significantly deepen the gameplay without changing everything is by allowing player interaction".

It was delivered as a statement of fact and not as a statement of opinion. I took it as hyperbole because there are obviously other things that Frontier could do to deepen the game play. Player interaction is just one of them. I'm not sure if you've sat in on any of the previous conversations on this subject but they frequently devolve into cesspools of name-calling a flared tempers ... and often my player faction, The Earth Defense Fleet, is at the center of those discussions.

I'm hoping that we can avoid those pitfalls and another closed thread on the subject by redirecting the conversation toward something constructive.

Sure, but it is also quite silly to assume what someone wants to say for sure, different people express themselves differently - Presuming and jumping the gun without questioning first always leads to heated discussions.
Intent is everything.

Of course not. I meant that as a bit of a joke. The former leader of the EDF has an EVE avatar and he frequently initiated conversation regarding fleet mechanics and guilds.

You are wrong to assume what I meant was "I have the absolute truth and you can all sod off because I know better than you."
I don't have to read your mind. I read your words:
"The only way you can significantly deepen the gameplay without changing everything is by allowing player interaction, such as trading and the creation of in game clans / corporations. / guilds, whatever you want to call them."
"The lack of player interaction is nothing short of staggering and disappointing."

How is that different than "this is the absolute truth"?

Why are you so much on the defensive and ready to be toxic at the first opportunity?

Never presume.
I'm not sure when I was toxic or defensive. I pointed out the irony of you calling someone else dogmatic.

Do you have something to say or do you just want to keep instigating? This is 100% pointless.

With instancing and the various game modes it's just not possible to enforce a blockade let alone have a meaningful war.

Guilds cannot protect or enforce control on any part of space...not to mention the various platforms Xbox and incoming Ps4.

RP is ofc possible and with willing participants wars can happen but they are always consensual otherwise players can just avoid the consequences or the event entirely if they wish for the reasons i stated above.

ED is a PvE game at heart.

Boy did this cause a storm; I love it, and wholeheartedly agree with the OP that this part of the game is severely lacking; In fact I'm getting ready to throw up a thread about how I firmly believe 2.3 is quite possibly the most antisocial social feature I've ever seen incorporated into a game, so if the rest of you want to be triggered now or wait, makes no difference to me :)

And for all the "Muh Braben's vision" apologists... How is that vision infallible? No battle plan (launch of game) survives first contact (community feedback), or at least should 100%, but that's a personal view.

Great post again Merkk!
