As an explorer one thing obviously difficult to do is get back to populated space quickly to repair/sell data/ refuel. If I had a big enough group we should be able to make our own base coriolis or at least an out post by bringing many loads of materials and design a station to specialize in things, trade hubs/ mining stations/ industry and even an explorer base.
It would be real fun if we had to build these by hand...er ship with a special internal compartment claw thing and a similar to landing hologram to place pieces with class of claw determining how big something can be. So either have a type 9 use it's class 8 slot and place a large chunk of an outpost or build it for days with a sidewinder. With that a specialized building ship would be handy, has 1 class 8 slot but only a few low class slots and massive thrusters. Likely these pieces need to be prefabed either on the spot by floating a bunch of auto fabricators and bringing materials to them or making it at another station and flying it over in small 1-4ton chunks in cargo bays.
With player made stations incomes greifing by placing half made claims and leaving to block good areas, this can be countered with a 10-30 commander consent form meaning that only large groups could even build one as it should be( even 30 is tiny considering how large a coriolis is). These groups could add commanders into an independent faction that shares the stations cash making these profitable.
The group could set a government type for different leadership styles and access to the cash. The leader/leaders could the set demands for material to maintain a station and once the station has grown begin selling what it has large amounts of (brought by players and npcs) also a station could hire npcs to do jobs at the station like mine and bring back the goods or bring desired mats.
These stations would need to have services installed such as shipyards and repairing. With shipyards maybe the station could order ships or ship designs to make at the station.
Any of these would be quite a big thing to implement so I don't expect instant results but I just wanted to throw my ideas out there to give it a chance, unless some one already has a similar thread that I couldn't find.
