Player Minor Faction questions

Hi there,

I have a few questions about the player minor faction creation : i'v read about it and i would love to create one with some friends.
First, is it possible to request a system with a limited number or players in the group ? (3-5)
It appears that we cant request a system with another player minor faction already in it, even when the system isnt the origin one of the said faction / or not even controlled by the player faction.
If that's true that's a really sad news.. we'v seen a lot of inactives factions and we would love to be able to fight even actives ones to get a chance to control an interesting system... not just the leftovers 5 years after... Do we have then to kick them out of the system in the hope of getting accepted in the mean time ?

Can someone confirm thoses informations to me ?
Thx to thoses who will take the time to answer =)

Afaik, nope, you need to meet the minimum group req.

Yep, true. My own group accidentally torpedoed a faction getting added; the system even got the faction description, but the faction didn't get added.

Define inactive.

My group's faction explicitly exploits passive traffic to prop up our influence without needing to take any action. We've had heaps of expansions that aren't even our doing, and have grown well outside our ability to protect everything, so many of our systems simply aren't on our protect list.

We also did this intentionally so our group could respond to events going on in the galaxy... so we will often be away from our home for weeks... safe in knowing our core systems will be safe thanks to passive traffic. Does that make us inactive?

Some groups deliberately don't expand or even retain control of the system per their group lore as "peaceful cohabitants", or a small but committed group of pirates. Are they inactive too?

What about a faction that is truly abandoned, but supported directly or indirectly by players not responsible for it's creation.

It's a bit of a rhetorical question; you can't actually show a faction is inactive, nor can you apply penalties for a multitude of reasons, mostly as a result of the fact "pmf" and standard proc gen factions are functionally identical.

So yeah, you're left trying to retreat them unless it's their home, then you're SOL.

Which is ? Havnt seen any minimum req in the frontier requirement list

Define inactive.
a faction with less than 5% control in the system since ages..

why not picking up an "abandoned" PMF with your friends? some of them have really great names and are not played any longer.
We wanted to target a specific system, which faction name is really lame =/

to request a minor faction, you first have to register a player group.

requirements for a player group can be found here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/register-for-a-minor-faction.529123/post-8134912

3) We now need to know how many members are in your player group.
  • Please give a rough or exact estimate of how many you have.
  • We will not accept “actively recruiting” or an inflated number that will not reflect the amount of players to the group within the game.
  • Needs to be of at least TEN.
as you are missing the numbers, you can't create a player group and therefore can't request a minor faction.

now, what are you options?
a) you pick up an abandoned minor faction in another system.
b) you pick up a npc or player faction (in that very system?) - create a squadron, get allied, and connect your squadron to the NPC faction you back (all can be done ingame) - for your numbers i generally think squadron is much more fitting. you name your squadron in a cool way, and back Revolutionary HIP 58760 for Equality (or similar).

i really recommend playing the BGS for some time before requesting a minor faction - many groups (even with the required numbers) are shocked, once they started, about the kind of gameplay required - which is one of several reasons why quite some get abandoned fast.
especially if you write:
we would love to be able to fight even actives ones to get a chance to control an interesting system...
BGS "wars" can be a lot of fun for people who are into that kind of gameplay, and they can go on forever if backed by good ingroup lore. But they can also get spreadsheet warriors wet dream fast.
