Player numbers on xbox one // Frontiers focus for xbox one and pc

Dear community,

I am new to Elite and my english is not that good. Please excuse.
Now I have to choose wether I play Elite on xbox one or pc.

Does anyone of you know, how many users are there for xbox one vs. PC?
And will Frontier Support the xbox one as good as the PC?

I prefer the xbox over my PC, but not if it will be a bad choice.

Thank you for your Feedback!
Doc

Only Frontier know the exact numbers, and they won't be releasing that kind of information.

I think it's fair to say that there are far more PC players than XB1. Don't let that put you off buying the game for XB1 though, it's a solid port and has a good community

Hi CMDR, Welcome to the forums.

The PC community is bigger then the Xbox Community, on PC you have HOTAS, VR, 1080p 60FPS/4K gameplay. Pretty much all stuff we Xbox Players are jealous on. (our XboxOne Controller is really good for Elite as well though)

On Xbox it's easy to find friends and chat/party up with them due to XboxLive. There is nice relaxed gaming on a big tv and on a relaxed couch. While graphics are still amazing. (i prefer this).

Support wise, both games are identical. Frontier is 100% dedicated as well to PC, as to XboxOne.

(Speculation: nothing is sure, but, with the upcoming release of the Xbox Scorpio. Elite might get a upgrade as well for us Xbox players)

It's really personal preferences, unless you want VR and HOTAS control. Then, you HAVE to go for PC for now.

I'm pretty confident support for vr & hotas is coming with the scorpio. If not at launch, then at least following it.

Simply because without the former, it'll be a huge flop.

And as for the latter, ms are already working with a number of peripheral manufacturers on a new common architecture for accessories to function across both xbox & pc. And at least one of those manufacturers just happen to produce hotas sticks..

In the beginning I considered buying a High end PC for this game, mainly for the joystick.

But decided to go for Xbox. The ease of use and connivence to play it on console is great! Never looked back.

Kind of a related question, but there any ability to migrate your account at all? I realize they are different universes that can't meet, but actions do influence the other. My situation is 2 years ago when I found out about ED I had a 10 year old junker PC so I opted for Xbox. I now have a fully loaded PC that would play this game top notch. I wouldn't really want to start over again in a sidewinder, but would consider moving to PC if I could move with all my ships, credits, rank etc.

Not sure I would actually do it, like the others I enjoy playing on the couch, on my big screen with the beer and peanuts, but would be good to know if there is that option for that even if that is something being considered?

I "think" a credit transfer is possible. But all your work regarding minor factions, major factions, exploration is gone.

also, if they transfer CMDR's to PC, they wipe your XboxOne save game...

But, if you want to be sure, i suggest gathering information form FDev them self.

PC: Better graphics, community never stops complaining.
Xbox: Same game, community is awesome :D

Any bias in my reply is in the eye of the beholder.

Do you have a link for the peripheral info mungo ?
Not that I doubt you've seen something along those lines just that I'd like to read it myself.

I have both, and can run maxed on pc. The difference is small. Both have menu lag and loading issues right now. Now will the difference widen? Yes. FD plans to continue to expand the assets of elite, making it more detailed with more advanced assets. Adding FPS in stations and ships with full vibrant detail. How Xbox will handle it compared to pc is obvious. But don't throw in the towel. Xbox version will be great no matter what and will be supported on Scorpio most likely giving it the power FD will need to keep up with their plans. Buying the Xbox version if you rather console is a good choice.

I love elite on Xbox, but I have always preferred consoles to PC

the xbox social stuff makes it super easy to find friends, and clubs and everything are a bonus

It's very much inferred at best. But I see (eventually) where this guy is coming from - source topic with link:

Besides this, didn't Microsoft partnered with Logitech a month or 2 back? And didn't made Logitech official steering wheels for Xbox360 back in the day?

And, Microsoft announced step in VR for windows 10 http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/31/13476292/microsoft-windows-10-vr-headsets-winhec-december

The future is bright for XboxOne / Scorpio / windows 10. Frontier would be crazy not to step in.. Imagine the publicity Frontier will get if they bring Elite Dangerous VR to Xbox Scorpio as one of the first VR games on these goggles. .

Elite is already one of the flagship vr titles. Even if not as a full-on joint venture, ms would be insane not to promote the crap out of ed when they do get around to launching console vr.

It's not like the 'other game' is coming to consoles. They confirmed early on that it's going to be pc only, and managed to exude quite the guff of master-race snobbery while they were at it. No thanks.

hence why xbox live are offering elite dangerous right now for about £16.00 ... tells me frontier wont be sorting too much out with slowdowns anytime soon on xbox 1

Hi Doc,

Welcome to ED. As other people have already stated the games are the same and I play the game on both (yes I am probably a bit mad!!!) so am in a good position to give me some advice.

Currently I play the PC version as the XB1 version currently has some really bad speed issues particularly in the game menus, which have become really frustrating of late (which the PC version doesn't suffer from, at least not on my PC (Its an old PC which I built myself but has been upgraded a tad for ED (AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4ghz processor, 8GB Ram, Samsung 500GB SSD Hard Drive, Samsung 500GB SSD Hard Drive just so you can have a comparison to your PC, I limit the game to 60FPS which I get throughout the game))

However saying that, when the XB1 version gets fixed (I do have faith that FD will sort it out, the issues only seem to have been introduced in 2.2) I will go back to it. The community is much better on the XB1 imho, everyone if on a level playing field and I prefer playing on my console.

Regardless of which you decide to go with, its a truly fantastic game. I play lots of games but ED is always the one I come back to.

And to answer the question you actually asked ;) Yes there are more players on the PC as it was initially released on the PC, however there are a large number of players on the XB1 too. I wouldn't let the number of players on either sway your decision to be honest as there are plenty of players on both platforms for private groups, open interaction and winging up etc (I cant comment on CQC as I have never played it and probably never will ;))

Looks like we will know more very soon .

I just emailed support about this recently as I bought a PC to play Star Citizen and want to switch over for Elite as well. You can transfer credits and the cash value of your ships but NOTHING else. No ranks, no modules, no data or materials, no reputation, no paint jobs.

As much as I'd like to play this on PC I'm simply not willing to re-grind all those things. Support says there just isn't any way to do it and there are no plans to change the policy. Why? I have no idea. If all our stuff is stored on their servers it seems like it shouldn't be that hard but apparently it is.
