Player Ownership in Colonies

Currently, all colonies are NPC-owned. This significantly limits player immersion and offers minimal tangible benefits.

We propose that players should be able to purchase full ownership of a star system within an established colony. Upon purchase, the system's allegiance and its dominant local faction would remain unchanged; however, that faction would then lease the system directly from the player.

Buildings within the system would generate tax revenue based on factors such as population, economic type, Background Simulation (BGS) status, and security level. Conversely, these structures would also incur maintenance costs dependent on their building type.

Should the system consistently fail to generate a profit over an extended period, it would be repossessed. Each player would be limited to owning only one star system.

Currently players are only important figures to themselves and a possibly a few close friends, this suggestion would change that.

As part of the joy of the game is that we aren’t important people this would be a bad thing.

So no.

Owning a star system is a cool idea, but all the revenue go to the colony purse / budget. What are the benefits for the owner that an architect doesn't get?

I get that you like feeling unimportant in the game. But 'importance' is personal. Some players love being quiet explorers, others want to make a real impact, even in a small way. My idea isn't to force everyone to own a system, just to give that option to those who want it. It won't ruin your fun, it just adds more to the game.

Rather than trying to create a secondary colonisation system. Just ask them to fix the current one until you feel like it's worth doing. We don't need or want 2 base building systems. The current one is lacking. It appears you given up on it but instead of just giving up you've decided to try your luck and suggest colonisation mk2. We're not even at mk1 that's where the suggestions should focus. We have a framework it needs to be finished.

Does an architect receive any benefits?
Architect receives a small stipend. Goes up to 5 million per week, past that point supposedly galactic levy kicks in. The stipend seem to be system score multiplied by 10k credits. And if you build 10 buildings in the system (first one doesn't count), you'll get a discount within the system which stacks with Elite discount.

ha, a real huge sum of money

If you get really busy with colonization it might be possible to negate weekly carrier payment. Though that will require a lot of effort. And the "levy" kicks in right below the minimum carrier payment. I'm not sure how high the "levy" is.

Apart from the bribe paid to the Faction to get the job to build them their system architects have no costs, all the materials are bought from them at a higher price than they will have paid, unless they visited some FC run by a scalper, which will get back the cost of the bribe.

By the way, is player driven colonization in "Colonia region" prohibited / obstructed?
I do not find any system colonization contact in existing stations there, and player carriers have theirs shut down. According to an Inara search, none available.

Yes.

For at least the period of the beta colonisation is only possible from systems in the bubble or colonies linked to those systems.

It is unclear as yet if when the beta ends that restriction will be lifted.
