Player Pirates on the Uprising

So, part complaint and part word of warning to others.

Player piracy seems to be at an incredible high right now. I got interdicted once by one group and escaped only to be grabbed by a second group straight after. They like to hang out around rare trade sources. Why they want to patrol the rare sources I have no idea. I don't know of any rare trades that link to other rare trades at exactly the 160LY mark, or whatever the cap distance is. The best they will get is junk cargo that is just filler for the most part.

ANYWAYS, These players are shameful in their practices, and they behave so shameless. They go around in large groups just so they can bully other players flying alone. If you do what they say then it is ok; but why is that ok? That is just bullying. Even if you have no cargo for them to take, or no bounties on your own head to serve them any purpose they decide they can just kill you for disobediently running away. I'm sorry, but I can't tolerate bullying, so I will either fight or flee depending on the circumstances.

I guess it was to be expected that this kind of practice would happen, but I'm very heart-broken that the community has to be plagued by this filth. It is enough to make me want to go hide in solo, but I'm not that kind of player. I enjoy the risks that come with playing in an open world environment with other players who have differing methods for giving themselves purpose; but when I first started playing this game back just before the wings update came out, and for the next couple months after, it was kind of infrequent to find other players and it was exciting. I thought it was cool. Now I see players and I'm honestly quite conflicted. I want to be able to trust them, maybe wing up with one of them, but now any one of them could be a pirate on the prowl. Not even a pirate, a bully. Simply put. A pirate would scan your cargo and then decide if attacking was worthwhile- a GOOD pirate would use more clever practices like the limpets to force your cargo out; but to just randomly attack without any of kind of gain to be had is just bullying.

Well, bullies won't keep me from playing, and I won't hide in solo/private group mode. Space is too big and I'm too arrogant.

Some may know you as an ally; others will call you a pirate, a bounty hunter, a smuggler, an explorer, an assassin, a hero... Fly alone or with friends, fight for a cause or go it alone; your actions change the galaxy around you in an ever unfolding story.

Part of the game m8. If you don't want to get shot down whilst running with no cargo then stop and let them scan you or trade else where.

Make sure you don't try to run with D-Rated modules and an undersized/no shield generator as well.

I do agree that there should be harsher penalties for crime in civilized systems, though.

@Distance.
Well mate, I totally understand that. I'm pretty sure I said that already too. Did you read what I wrote, mate?

Anyways. My problem wasn't piracy or any of the above mentioned. Straight up bullying because you have a posse and a bigger ship.
They COULD scan while shooting, and then turn back when they find no cargo instead of making every effort to undo my own progress in the game.

Why are you a proponent for that kind of behavior? I'm really quite curious.

You're right, this space is filled with bullies, or rather, grievers are what they are.

These people are not pirates, therefore please don't categorize them with pirates.

Piracy in this game is welcomed and also advertised to be an active portion of the game, thus its existence is valid.

Again, those people you met probably aren't pirates, they are grievers.

- Nope, it's called piracy.

- Good. That's the right 'tude :D

Problem is that pirates operate with impunity. There is no consequence for the crime. Hopefully with 1.3 the defection consequence can be extended to pirates as well, ie commit a crime and be hunted till extermination.

Justice.

I hope so! It'll actually make Elite, dangerous!

Indeed.

It will add a whole new dimension to gameplay and vamp up immersion by a 1000%. I mean, imagine you're a pirate and you know that if you pull the trigger on your 'victim' then you'll have Jango Fett on your tail, as good as a death sentence. You'll think twice. Now rob your victim and the consequences will be less: Scale the response according to the crime.

Cannot be that difficult to implement, surely?

More information please. Which system? Ship types and numbers?
Traders want warnings, bounty hunters want leads.

Did they send any message?

Well, your insults are nice and all, but not very productive.

I was never saying that piracy is wrong; just their methods are wrong.

Exactly! And that's what this game needs. I've been a trader, been exploring and, now i've just got a clipper, I'm pirating again. I would love to be chased around by both NPCs and players for what I do, it'd be great fun and much less boring than just being able to fly around with little consequence. Hunt me down, I'm out there! Oh, and I don't just hunt for the thrill of it, if cargo is dropped then traders are free to go. If not, well, I'll accept my fate as much as the ones who try to run away have accepted theirs...

...thanks for reminding me, I've now made enough money to kit my clipper out A-class and hoist me Jolly Roger! Shiver me timbers!!! Wish me luck fellow pirates (ya black-hearted, back-stabbin blaggards ya ;) ) ...

I've just had a thought too. I'm an honest pirate, if people give in to my very reasonable demands then they're free to go. However, the 'bad' pirates out there or maybe just the killers are also really adding to the game. After all, if every trader knew that each pirate was honest it would make it very easy for them to stop, pay out a bit of cargo and then be off. But the risk that they may be blown up by someone who likes to blow people up adds a very intense and (quite lacking) element to the game. To each their own, it all adds to the game and the fact that it's the players making it dangerous and, unfortunately, not the developers at the moment. (Even with the 1.3 update coming out).

Oh yeah. I think the Clipper is an awesome pirating craft!

But by saying 'their' you're saying all pirates are the same and that's not true. Some people play the game honestly, and that includes pirates. To call people 'filth' in regards to a game, as the OP said, I thought was a bit over the top. People just play the game the way they like to play it. (And I don't think my post was actually insulting anyone to be fair...)

A GOOD trader would know to stay out of pirate infested areas.

Adapt and overcome, play smart.

After all you want a challenging game experience and not a monotonous trade grind. Right ?

"Their" was in reference to my aforementioned bullies.

To HeavyGroovez
The problem is that the bullies are patrolling the trade source. Not the end-goal to a trade. I go to Altair to purchase Altairian Skins from Solo Orbiter. I don't often have anything in my cargo except maybe a bit of grain or meat at that point.
In this one instance, I was actually on my way to help a friend out. However, I would have stood no chance with the amount of bullies that were online. Most of them are in squadrons of 3 or 4, maybe more. There is just no fair game here, and the bullies are wasting every ones time if we are expected to stop for every single bully in the area. Part of the problem is that ammunition and repairs are cheap, so you go have your fun with a few other misfortunate players, have a few laughs, and then go kill an actual bounty somewhere to make the difference in used supplies.

If they were really concerned about making profit over this, they would be taking out the competition, and thus making the area considerably less dangerous and not nearly as tedious to trade at. That would give traders less reason to avoid it, and if you so called "pirates" are actually any good, you wouldn't kill them. You have no need of it. You don't get money for killing, that just puts larger bounties on your head. The money comes from the dropped goods and that is all.

But we aren't talking about pirates. These are players who just want a laugh at the expense of others. They are the ones in any other multi-player game that do nothing but team kill because that is funny. They are trolls and they are bullies. If you want to put yourself in that category, well fine. But I have 0 respect for your ideals.

I guess I had hoped there were people in this community that weren't just out for their own selves and we, as players, could establish our own way of dealing with it. I don't agree that this is something the Devs need to fix. There isn't really anything broken with the game, and thus not their problem. I think it is beautiful that this kind of conflict can occur in the game; but Apparently, the community is only about "pirating" these days. It only took the better part of 5 months for that to happen.
