DISCLAIMER: This is not asking for player-owned outposts/stations
Hello FD! My idea behind player subsidized stations is to help push the background sim forward without manual injection of outposts. Basically, a player with enough money (~400,000,000 Cr or more) can subsidize the creation of an outpost by a minor faction. The player will only be able to decided which system/body the outpost will be in/orbit, and not be able to attach a specific name, economy, or services to the station, because these will be procedurally generated, almost completely the same as when the galaxy was first generated. The newly created outpost will be controlled by the faction whom the player gave the money to.
Furthermore, the cost to the player will vary based on the wealth of the faction whom the player interacts with, and the distance. A fringe anarchy with 1,000 people isn't going to put forward any money, as they're very poor, whereas Sirius Corporation might be willing to pay up to half the costs. I'm thinking ~400,000,000 Cr cost for the most wealthy factions and ~1,000,000,000 Cr for the ridiculously poor, at 50 light years from the station where the minor faction is based.
Lastly, a bit which would bring the community together. Allow players to pool their money together when subsidizing an outpost, to allow large groups of players to put a very far-reaching outpost somewhere. Imagine the Pioneer's Cooperative pooling many billions upon billions of credits together to get an outpost far into the black, or a group of them closer to home?
The purpose of this is both further the background simulation, and give the ridiculously wealthy players something to do with their money. I hope this doesn't sound like nonsense to you, FD, and have a great day!
