Player Supported Stations

Pulled this out of a larger conversation....

Rather than OWNING a player built resource like an outpost, station, etc.

Modify the existing Major Faction mechanics to work for a Minor Faction and it's systems/stations

Register to support any Minor faction and support its stations, get merits for hauling goods or some method of combat support for the stations, like fending off attacks or turning in combat bonds.

Rewards would be much smaller, maybe the top tier is 5Mil, plus a bonus for in-system activities like trading, local combat bonds or bounties.
One of two options for supporting the station, complex and simple.

Complex
Say, for tier 1 ammo resupply:
15 tons of each:
Iron
Nickle
Tungsten
10 tonnes:
Explosives
Polymers.

Repair:
35 tonnes:
Titanium
Polymers
Computer Components
Ceramic Composites

General requirements for each level of base support to support staff onboard:
15 tons food cartridges
15 tons Fresh F & V
15 tons Meat (various types)

Simple:
Instead of complex Haul X materials, Make a set of generic commodities like PP has:
Repair Support Package
Munition Support Package
Staff Support Package

Such Packages would match an Economy, like Staff Support Package would be available in Agri economies only, Munitions in Extraction, etc. There is no "one stop shop" like PP.

Other:
Engaging in combat in local "Pirate Zones" and earning combat bonds that become merits, just like in PP, just a smaller scale.

Interesting thought. Good way to let players get more directly involved with the galactic economy than just constantly running cargo and making 50mil an hour...

This would definitely encourage players, especially miners, to put down roots and call a system home.

I like this ! Adds depth. But this should be combined with some sort of story or background, something to involve the player in the then and there instead of roaming the stars. Plus, there should be change in that star-system (like a more or less continuous pirate problem in various numbers, new stations, small missions galore on radio, system bonuses for actually helping, not so generic distress calls (at least txt). Like a city in space, buzzing with activity. Hell, in the year 3000, every car is a Viper :)
