Players need more to do than just fly around.

What I mean by this is you can basically only do two things in ED, thats trade and killing NPCs for bounty.
Sure you can explore but it will take you ages of gameplay to get out of colonized space so you are still stuck with those two things and perhaps do some mining and some missions but that's about it.

We really need to be able to spend our hard earned credits on more things than just ship upgrades.

I would love to see some elements from X series in ED so we players have more things to do and look foward to than just grind to the next ship like it was in the old games.

Just a thought.

What other things do you want to do?

If your answer is command cap ships or own space stations the I think that's be discussed elsewhere already. :)

Also don't forget we're still only seeing a very limited portion of the game right now (to the point where calling it 'beta' is a bit 'trades description act' IMHO, but I digress :D ) - check back in a year or so - I'm sure there will be more to do then. :)

Personally, just flying to the nearest ring system and tooling around in the asteroids hasn't got old for me in the 6 months of alpha. :)

In FE2, there were the military missions to photograph or bombard the secret bases. There was also the parcel delivery.
There were also the assassinations of politicians and businessman, corrupt. In ED, there will be all that, certainly

It is still an early stage of the game, but obviously I also would like to see more then we have at the moment. Mixture of Trading, Exploring, Building and Fighting.

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

Atm in this early stage of the game development its more or less to test parts of the game we will se in the final release. There is plenty more in the pipeline to come that we have not seen yet so its to early to say that this game lack content.
As a Alpha or beta player you are limited in content and those content they want us to test they release to us. And foremost to help them to iron out bugs.

You can always check out the Design Discussion Archive to get a brief overview of what they plan :)

I found the extra elements in the x games more of a grind than any amount of flying around.
I gave up on it when I realised I was spending more time looking at lists than having space adventures.
Just my opinion of it....

Great if so. I hope ed will have all kinds of missions and not only procedurally generated star systems with stations and some alien species in writing of the station description. I hope that a lot of stuff from DDF will make it into the final game.

Ed will be full of subtleties. The intelligence and strategy will be very important in the game Just read the statement on the home page : "Whether you want to trade for profit between systems, take part in multiplayer mission alliances, free-for-all group battles and team raids to bring down planetary economies. Tip the balance of power in the galaxy, or simply explore the wonders of the universe and face the unknown… it is up to you.

Your second-to-second actions could have you taking the roles of trader, pirate, bounty hunter, leader, team player, opportunistic assassin, grand schemer, and more. You are at the centre of the action any time, any place and any way you choose – each action has a consequence, and influences the galaxy around you."

I'm sure the vast majority of it will make it in to the final game. I think FD have sensibly set themselves lofty but realistic goals.

Every time I see another interview with David talking about the possibilities of the game, I do wonder if there is a crowd of people back in the office rolling their eyes and saying thing like 'what's he said this time? is that even achievable? and how long's that gonna take?' [In the same way I live in fear of my boss talking to clients about projects] :)

Plus everyone's favourite space insectoids will be back at some point.

No doubt that ED will be much richer than FE2 and FFE. There will also be of events regularly injected by the developers. And do not forget later the planetary landings and walking around the spaceship. Not forgetting the hunting of game

I know its against the forum rules to post same thing in multiple thread, but I posted this in the alpha forum and just wanted to share some of the excitement you can face in the game in its current state.

I flew around happily in my little cobra when I got interdicted.
For no reason, as I didn't carry any cargo and thought it was just another police scan.

It was a bunch of eagle ships and some Lakon and cobras. I scanned a few but they had no wanted mark on them so I thought , oh well I leave this place, but just when I was about to fire up my engines the eagles started to attack the Lakons and the cobras. So it was a battle where 2 Lakons and 2 cobras was blown to pieces by 4 eagle real fast.
After the battle I scanned one of the eagle and he was wanted so I thought I cud get some easy money.
Started to fight him and killed him but only to find out that the rest of the eagles had turned red on me. I tried to fight them but they outmanoeuvred me so I put my tail between my legs and started to shake them of. it took long time before I mange to get enough distance so I cud engage my frameshift drive. And my hull was just at 7%.
Still to live another day

Players need more to do than just fly around...

Oh contraire,

This is EXACTLY what I am here to do. That's what Elite IS. Me, my ship and the galaxy...

flying around...ever chasing the elusive status...striving...to become...

ELITE.

i think that rule is a little flexible when it comes to the alpha forums as a lot of people dont have access ;)

back to topic: IIRC something was mentioned about special events initiated by FD that players could join in, like interplanetary wars and border skirmishes? very much like the Damocles video where the sidewinders get called in to a fire-fight between two capitol ships.

thank you for putting that Image in my head... my dog is now looking at me as if i'm a fool for laughing as hard as I just did.

Loads of games are successful with only one thing to do, more things does not mean better game.

Extra content needs to be of high quality and I'd rather have less things that were more interesting than many things that were boring.
