Playground

Something that was always missing from Planet Coaster 1 and Planet Zoo was the ability to build playgrounds. Every theme park and zoo in real life has playgrounds.

It's great to see that we can build small water slides in PC2 but i really hope we can build regular playgrounds with swings, slides, sandbox, monkeybar etc.

This would require additional animations and some sort of system that only children can use these items though.

It would be a possible DLC pack as well?

I would love to have this as well! No need to go overboard on this in complexity but it could be another nice side-dish. Real life parks usually have them so yes, it would be a great fit!

I think the variety in animations to make it look realistic would be too difficult
It could be a challenge but i guess they will need to have specific animations for guest using the water slides as well?

Planet Zoo has a lot of specific animations with a large number of animals so it's not impossible for Frontier to do.

I would love to see the RCT3 style mini golf make a return as well and that would also require some extra animations.

Let's hope they at least consider it, even if it's added later as a DLC

I was thinking if perhaps we get the ability to build water park playgrounds.. then the standard kind can be possible too. Both would be nice.

Yeah but with coasters and waterslides every guest enters it using the same animation maybe with a slight variation but a playground is completely random so it would be much harder to make unless on the playground guests would line up to use the swing and then swing back and forth a couple of times in exactly the same way i dont think it is really possible to make a realistic looking playground

That's a good point, you would need a lot more animations to make it realistic.

I'm okay without the playgrounds but would like splashpads for the youngsters in the waterpark area. Another thing that sort of goes along with this theme are the water based challenge obstacles I've seen in water parks. A couple that come to mind are the chained 'logs' that form a line across a pool and you have a cargo net or other method to hold onto suspended above and try to make it across without falling in as well as the 'lillypad' ones with the large round green cylindrical floats chained to the bottom of the pool that using the cargo net above have to attempt to cross from one side of the pool to the other. Some examples of the different types and variety that can be done with this concept:

I like all this. I was just thinking how a Takeshi's Castle-style obstacle course would be very cool. I just didn't know if the animations would be too difficult. Probably the biggest issues is that people would want to all set dressing be elements that guests interact with (like getting guests to actually step on decorative wooden planks), and that might be tough. But it'd be a great addition either way, with the new water theme. So yeah, a playground-type thing would be great!

BTW People could also indulge their silly sadist side with something like this. When people play games like this, they like to be able to play like that sometimes.

By the way, why not also add laser tag to this? It seems really similar in terms of implementation, and it'd allow for a lot more park variety (imagine a laser tag arena elevated over a new water feature). These are usually enclosed spaces, but this is a game, so open-air could also work. And you'd basically get a free laser show at night. ;-)

To be honest, I've never seen a single playground at any Zoo or Theme Park in real life and I've been to heaps. I have a hunch there may be a "kids" DLC that could include playground pieces.

Naaah, they did a great job of many many many different playing, fighting, swimming, jumping and running animations for lots of a different animal types in Planet Zoo and it looks like some cool guest animations in the pools already.

I'm thinking the playground idea would work well if it was done like the the modular gift shop in Planet Zoo.

Playgrounds are very common in theme parks and zoos here in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Germany, UK etc.

A few examples:

Imagine some generic pieces (swings, slides) and the ability to customise the scenery in the same way the flat rides are customisable

I'm no expert--so I'm only speculating here--but the way guests are handled, all bunched up into groups that function as a single individual, probably limits certain options like playgrounds.

That said, guests seem to act as individuals under specific situations... namely the ride queues... and now the swimming pool too seem to allow more individualistic movement... if I had to guess, they're designed to allow such freedom that the normal paths don't.

Now, with all that said, I find myself wondering if it would be possible to make special "playground zones" where guests can separate and interact with different objects and attractions while within the zone... perhaps even widen the criteria to include other situations, such as "shopping zones" or "restaurant zones" to give our guests more freedom in such areas as well.

Yes, the peeps will be the reason why playgrounds won't happen. A playground is a random thing without any queues and very limited objects. It's a lot of individual behaviour. I think they can't handle it...

I hate to agree on this one but I think you are right.

I would love to see some playground items as it reflects reality and just for the purpose of "small attractions".
However I think you are right, it's a lot of work for minimal reward. In those regards I don't expect anything.
