Playing ED on WMR headset without steam

Hello there,

I have a native copy of Elite Dangerous for Windows (ie not purchased off steam)
How do I play it using WMR?
I can start WMR portal in the headset fine but when I start ED it doesn't launch in the headset.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not at my PC at the minute, but from memory - to get it working for the Oculus S, I did the following (Hopefully WMR is similar) :-
start ED, go into settings, options->Graphics, under 3D, choose VR Ultra (or Med,Low etc)->Speakers, apply the settings, then exit and re-launch the game from within your WMR Portal, hopefully you should now have ED in VR

Cheers,
Nick

To my knowledge Elite doesn't support WMR devices natively, only those devices supported via SteamVR or the Oculus runtime. Due to this you'll likely need SteamVR installed, running and configured for your device at the very least. Once you have done this you should be able to follow the above instructions in NickP's post to get your HMD working in game.

Yep ,Ive had the cv1 for a couple years now it always just works but i cant seem to get this odyssey+ working. Its almost like ED doesnt detect it.

Thanks, that was it. I had to install SteamVR and then Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR from within Steam. WMR is one hell of a dogs breakfast.

Launch the game from its own launcher then change the 3D option to "HMD (Headphones)" as per screenshot:

If that doesn't start SteamVR make sure you've got this setting enabled:
142915

Hope that helps o7
