Playing God

I wish I could find the video where David Braben explains the Galaxy and how the Ai/Star Systems will operate but if I understood the explanation correctly, it almost seemed as though we could play as a God. He mentioned that we can find valuable resources on planets/rich asteroids which the factions/independent star systems wish to acquire in order to colonize/increase growth/build a space station. With our ability to mold say one independent star system by completing missions with them allowing them to gain the aforementioned could they then build a formidable fleet. Would that then allow this one single independent star system become able to grow into a multitude of star systems united as one, then forming a new rogue faction besides the ones in the initial release. That would make it seem as though we play God being able to craft a section of the galaxy to our own desires by improving one systems power in its area? Perhaps im wrong and somebody knows what David meant. I personally hope I made the correct interpretation :D

I wish you could find the Tab button so I could read your wall of text.

Maybe try a bit spacing and somebody might actually read that block and give you some good feedback.

TLDR: Crap in, Crap out.

dont really understand whats difficult, it would be the same amount of letters, just taking up more space with the spacing... also not writing a paper for my professor either

Using proper "white space" serves the function of reducing strain on the reader, allowing them to more easily scan and interpret what you are saying. If you want anyone to take you seriously—academically, professionally, or socially—you should learn to use it.

As for the OP, I really hope you can't become that powerful. I enjoy the idea of being a small cog in the much larger galactic machine, and I don't want this to become anything like Eve.

Doing this would be totally against what Elite is about, so I therefore doubt DB meant it the way you stated it.

While it is theoretically possible that a LARGE group of players may achieve what you suggest it's also likely that another LARGE group of players will be working to achieve such a goal for another faction, thereby halting the spread of the influence of the first faction.

You, as a single pilot, simply don't have that kind of influence.

Not wishing to offend but adding spaces and paragraphs makes reading a wall of text easier.

To answer the Qs:

DB alluded to the background simulation aspect as being fairly flexible in what you can do : new stations will indeed pop up and with it a host of missions to bring in materials. Now, if you don't bring ANY then will the station still be build ? I presume so but perhaps not as quickly (NPCs will in effect help)

If there is a conflict between 2 systems and a battlefront set up - if you pick 1 side and constantly kill the other will they eventually loose ? Unknown - I would like to think so but how long this takes no one knows.

I think though the point of his vision is that in a small wall you can affect the background - do what the game wants and you influence it in a particular direction; do the opposite and you may change the fate of things.

Now .. if a very large group of players act as 1 .. they might affect the BG simulation quicker and with more of a noticeable effect :)

We individually though are not Gods.
