Newcomer / Intro Playing in borderless window mode

Ok, so can someone enlighten a noob please as to the benefit and method for the above? I've googled and searched and can find anything that explains how or why it's done. Thank you :)

go to options -> graphics and under "display" select the "fullscreen" and set it to borderless. its the easy version of alt tabbing out of the game to look up trade routes and next destination to trade.

The main benefit of playing in a borderless window is so you can do other stuff while you are playing. i.e. for users with multiple monitors they can have a browser open, spreadsheet for their commodoties, podcast/music controls etc. on a second monitor. If you are running full screen you can't pull the mouse on to a second screen without alt-tabbing or hitting the windows key.

This. I get so mindbogglingly bored with trading in this game that I couldn't live without extra monitors =P

Exactly. Whilst I'm waiting for whatever, I can use my second monitor for either game related or frivolous stuff, without the silly alt tabbing, and still being able to see the game in case anything funny goes on.
