Newcomer / Intro Playing on a laptop

hi all,

planning to play on my MacBook as and when i can.

I read a stick+voice command is almost a must so how does the old KB and mouse comb work out these days?

cheers.

It's doable, some people swear by it, but I am pretty clumsy, so ordering a Thrustmaster HOTAS, which works well with a Mac. Problem with a Macbook(or any laptop) is the lack of F-keys and getting used to all the functions in the game. I also can't imagine using a trackpad with Elite, so a full-featured mouse seems like a must with the game. I still have a full Mac USB keyboard I use to play games like WoW on my Mac.

Hi Commander-
I have done both and recommend the stick. Most things were doable with the mouse/keyboard except for mining. Lining up the cargo scoop was really more difficult and turned me off mining. I got the X52 Pro with some pedals I had and the game is entirely different. Now everything seems more natural (I am a pilot RL). At this point mining is a real no brainer and combat flows so much more freely.

But, it's clear to me that mouse and keyboard works too! This is all part of the "roll your own" nature of this great game.

I play mostly on kb/mouse and have no problems whatsoever but I will admit that it is far more enjoyable those times I can be bothered to get the x52 out. I didn't have any issues mining or any other aspect of the game but a few of my friends can barely control their ships without a stick so it is very much down to the player. Voice would enhance the game too I guess but I have never tried it.

I would suggest giving it a go as even if you find it difficult something like a Thrustmaster T-Flight can be had for a fraction of the price of an x52/x55/Warthog.
