Playing on an OLED

I'm so excited to finally play this game, having never owned a powerful enough PC and getting a PS5 at launch. I do, however, play on an OLED (Sony AG9) and whilst burn in, or even image retention for that matter, hasn't really been a problem the HUD on this game (the bright blue bar on the bottom) does concern me. Can PC players confirm whether they've played on an OLED and had no issues, or whether the bar is customisable i.e. able to be made transparent?

I know, I know, don't buy an OLED if you want to play games - I'm a fairly casual gamer these days so I've prioritised quality for films/TV over major burn in concerns from games. But still, I'm hoping there might be some suggestions!

Hello JustStevo!

I am not a PC user, but I do have an LG OLED B9 and have been mainly playing with the PS4, Switch, and soon PS5.

Burn-in is often an issue if you leave the TV on displaying the same static image over a loooong period of time. If you kept a picture on for days on end and not close the TV or change to anything else, then you are in trouble. With gaming, it could be an issue if you play the same game for hours on end for several days, but I won't worry too much about it. With Planet coaster, you may end up spending time changing the camera to ride coasters, pan around the park, opening menus, and much more, so your screen should be busy.

I would simply recommend having your TV and/or game system to enter screen saver mode if there is no activity from your end and to shut down/rest mode if there is no activity for an even longer period of time. Burn-in is something users do not face normally and is why OLED is often recommended. As long as you have your TV rest from time to time, you should be fine. The OLEDs even have pixel refreshing features available in case you feel like a burn-in would occur.

Here is a link to CNET on OLED screen burn-in.

With next-gen a month away, I simply say to have fun and not worry about burn-in, just be sure to rest your TV and your eyes every now and then. (y)

You think the tv companies an others would just have a little bit of software that randomly turn oleds off and on across the screen so they don't retain the image or face any burn.
