Playing on the sofa

I play mostly on the sofa in VR

I have an XB controller at the moment which works really well imo, except dogfights are a mess - I can't aim, throttle control is random and fumbling for the right button combo in the heat of the moment can get expensive.

So I want a joystick. Being on the sofa will I just be wasting my money buying one? I have space beside and in front of me but I need one that doesn't move about - ideally with a flat plate Looking at the x56 some reviews say these need to be suckered down. warthog looks like it would work but lack of twist puts me off (and price a little bit)

So which stick and setup works? I don't mind fashioning up some timber or being creative - I have an old movable computer desk for example that I might be able to do something with

Table, chair, keyboard and mouse help to aim a lot really :D

I changed long time ago my old X52 (non-pro) which derivation on axes, for the T.16000M Hotas, and I'm really happy about it. really precise. No suction below, just rudders I wet slightly and it stick very well in my desk.

I play from my sofa with my X52 and use a wheelstand, works great. I use velcro strips to keep it stable and it also makes it easy to remove the X52 and swap to my wheel setup for some driving.

I made a custom mount for my office chair so throttle and stick are at the end of each arm, that way I can recline back and game comfortably for hours. It's particularly good with vr as you really feel like you are in the cockpit. You really need a stable base for them so you would deff want a tray table at least to get the most out of them from your couch.

Hotas warthog has a big flat plate, you can probably sit on the thing for stabilisation though you might need a short stick extension for the joystick

Hello. I use the covers of a tower PC and a mini-itx and magnets to hold and give stability. In case it gives you an idea ...

To improve the joystick attachment. I have placed neodymium magnets in the gap of the counterweights base. And I have put others magnets on the metal surface where it is fixed. Works.
