Is the "just one more jump" obsession, despite the likely lack of payoff in that next star, similar to buying scratch-off lottery tickets?
It's never like you really know if you are about to enter a system with lots of interesting things. Or just rocks. Or not even rocks.
I've been questioning myself why I forge through this mostly procedurally-generated simulation of our galaxy with interest in finding the one of thirty-some or so different varieties of stars and planets. Well, it's still fun for now but I can see how some folks that have been doing it for a while have a waning interest. Just found myself jumping from star-to-star tonight out in the middle of nowhere with no tourist destination in mind and no neutron destination to farm feeling like I was scratching off lotto tickets hoping for that ELW or watergiant or ammonia world payoff.
