Newcomer / Intro Playing together?

I've got my friend to buy Elite Dangerous, we're trying to play together but alas, no luck. We have friended eachother ingame, see eachother online but can't find eachother in the game. The funny thing is that we both have a different IP listed in the main menu...

How can we join the same instance?

If you are in Open play it's down to blind luck if there are a lot of players in the area, but what you can do is create a private group and then invite your friend. This will keep you in the same instance most of the time (provided you are at the same location of course).

Also note that the devs are working on the multiplayer right now and this should be much improved in the next patch (1.2).

thanks for the answers! we managed to play together by starting the game at the same time, that was a tip from a reddit board, looks like its working.

Always fun to see your inexperienced friend fly in to an asteroid.

Under your friends and group options in the Escape menu create a group. When loading the game both you and anybody on your friends list can see your group if you go into groups rather than open or solo and that should put you in the same instance. I used to sometimes have trouble with chat but the past patch solved that.
