General / Off-Topic PlayStation 5 dev kits already sent to developers claims rumour.

I seem to recall you saying it's release could be 2018. Yes I scoffed. 2019 or 2020 is more reasonable. :D

Yes, that's what I meant, xmas 2018, if it comes out in 2019 , they would have to rename it to ps5 plus one and that would sound too much like an xbox.

The ps4 came out in 2013, 2018 would make it five years old. I'm hoping the 5 in addition to being just a number that follow 4, also applies to the fifth year since the 4 became a thing. I mean the ps4 pro should have been named the ps5, why wasn't it? I know we will have to just wait and see, but I'm hopping it's not an whole extra year longer.

Some devolpers already have it available, and as always, a new counsil will hve a few games ready to be played on a new console. And in so much as the 5 allows one to play ps3's and 4's tiltles. One can buy it, utilize it post haste. Thus xmas this year, "MAY" be the the release date.

Snicker's Bar's for everyone if I'm incorrect. But if I am, I want Snicker's Bars from everyone. LOL

The article still believes 2019 or 2020. So if it doesn't release in 2018 we are getting snickers bars? I will PM you my address. :D

If it plays PS3 (highly doubtful) and PS4 games (more likely) I would probably buy one on release.

I'm with Stormy on release date, because AAA games can take YEARS to develop, so Naughty Dog isn't going to whip together the next Uncharted / Last Of Us in just a few months.

New consoles don't come with all new games available at launch. Two three maybe four, the rest come later as new or remastered. And in the case of the ps5 which will play ps4 games, most won't need to be remastered. Just plug them in and play.

As far as time line goes, it's only been x since the ps4 pro and a bit longer for the ps4. People will get angry if a new one is offered to soon. Tell that to the cell phone companies who make bank selling new phones every year. And they are considerably more expensive.

As a rule the general public like newer, improved, bigger, better, faster, etc etc etc. and their are stats to prove it. If your not one, you know a half dozen that are just as I stated.

Reckon time will tell! I'm so sure about it, that I'm not going to buy a carton of Snicker's Bar's until Xmas this year is over. besides, they will be cheaper. LOL

The end of the PS4 life-cycle has been trending on Twitter (at least my feed), and there are some new evidence of PS5 development in the works. I thought this might be the year when I upgrade to PS4 Pro, but now I'm not so sure...

I waited until the PS4 Slim was released before upgrading from my PS3, as I traditionally wait for new consoles to mature before investing in them. The difference now is that the PS5 will use a similar, albeit more powerful architecture to the PS4. If the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games, that changes things IMO. Having recently invested in PSVR, I also hope that PS5 is compatible with this technology. Anybody have scuttlebutt regarding backwards compatibility?

Yeh all hinges on that for me, Mark Cerny is a big believer is "breaks" between the console generations which would imply he's against backwards compatibility but, with the way the recent Xbox and PS4 architecture appears to be not having backwards compatibility in my eyes would be a deal breaker for a day one upgrade for me, if there is no backwards compatibility then I will wait as I did with the PS4.

If the PS4 is based on AMD Ryzen technology then backwards compatibility should be straight forward? Maybe we would finally get Elite Dangerous in UHD on PS4.

Ahh so that's why you were asking about Pro, do it. :)

Indeed! The last thing I wanted to do is buy a Pro only to have it obsoleted a year later. Here's an interesting article that I think hits the nail on the head.

Whoever at Sony released the "PS4 Entering End of Its Lifecycle" statement to the public made a huge PR mistake IMO. To be a fly on the wall at the meetings that followed....
