Plea for help with my build

Please help with my build. I'm desperate.
My plan was to build a circular habitat with a raised path all the way around it, with the interior surrounded by rocks. I wanted to build a tunnel through the rocks where the zookeeper could go through to feed the animals. You can see in my screenshots that I'm using the invisible (null) barrier inside the rocks.
The issue is that I can't get a path to connect to the habitat gate no matter what I do. It keeps saying "terrain modification failed" like it's obstructed, but there doesn't seem to be anything obstructing it. Please help me understand why it won't let me attach a path to the habitat gate.
The rectangular tunnel is what I want to place over the habitat gate when it's finished (shown in 2nd pic), and then I'll surround it with rocks and finish the pathing up top.

Do you have flatten terrain or tunneling on it the path options? If so turn it off and try again, those options make problems more often than not.

Try moving the gates just slightly in whichever direction, maybe that will fix it. I agree with Nioell, make sure all the advanced pathing options are set as you want them.

I had a similar issues and had to do what peppypep suggested and it worked. I think sometimes a gate and the terrain just gets a bit bugged.

I second checking that flatten terrain or tunnel are turned off, but I have another theory: the path shown in your printscreen is wider than 4m, the standard width of a path out of the enclosure. I think this may make the path conflict with the barrier as far as the game is concerned, have you tried with a 4m path?
It may be relevant that the terrain around a barrier can no longer be modified, this apparently was always the intended case, but they had in patch notes about introducing an option somewhere to allow the editing again (though I haven't found it yet). Perhaps if you can find that option, it could also help.

My default when all else fails is to delete everything (barriers, paths, rides, though most construction items seem okay) within 10m, get the terrain flattener and starting on a part of the map far away that I never touched, drag from there to my problem area to flatten it to default, then try building it up a bit at a time. Perhaps deleting the door and building some path towards where it will be first will cause it to auto-connect to your path when placing the door after, as these things can behave differently depending on which order you tried to do them in.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I'll try the things you all suggested and let you know if it worked.

EDIT It worked! It turns out that "flatten terrain" was the issue. I had that box checked. I unchecked it, and now it's working fine. Thanks again, everybody.
