Please add some direction tool that points to Sol/Earth so the Holy may know which way is Makkah

Hello,

For the People of Islam, including myself as a proud Sunni and many other Elite Dangerous members, such as the 500 Brothers and Sisters in my in-game group, the Qibla, or direction of prayer, is very important. This direction is towards the Ka'bah in the Honorable city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. There are several methods that one can use to orient themselves in game, but not in the correct direction. While the Honorable Makkah is the center of our homeworld Earth, it is not the center of Sol or the Milky Way and it to further make difficult our attempts to pray in-game to the Holy Ka'bah, gravity and other issues skew our alignment to the Holy relic.

We ask that you, Frontier, please add some form of in-game directional tool to help facilitate our daily in-game prayers.

Thank You.

My ship is considered holy so I pray in its general direction.

This is most haram. To the Devs: as more than 1.5 billion people in the year of our Lord 2015 accept the righteous and devote path of Muhammad, it can be interpreted that, similarly, a fifth or greater of the Elite: Dangerous npc population embraces Islam. Think of the NPCs this would help benefit, not to mention the hundreds, if not thousands, of Muslim players :)

Try selecting Sol from the galaxy map. That should bring up our home system on the little Nav compass and as a target, even when it is far outside your jump range.

We must know at all times however! Incoming the exact coordinates to SOL and the holy land.

No problem, align your PC so that when you face the screen you face to wherever it is you have to face. Your in-game avatar will then be facing the right way. problem solved and FD don't have to waste valuable development time.

Since I am an unofficial member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I do not feel the urge to direct my prayers towards Earth (in fact I'll direct my prayers as far away from that ball of dung on ass end of the galaxy as possible).

However... You can select Sol (or any star) in galaxy map and its position and distance will be visible on HUD... as long as the star in within 2k ly.

Actually...

It would be nice if that distance could be increased, and the star could be "locked" (independently), so we can still select and jump to any system using "left" panel. It would be cool for exploration: just select the final destination and make up the road as you go along with your final target still "in sights". IMO that would be a nice feature.

Being a Discordian, I sometimes want to face my Goddess Eris. The dwarf planet Eris in Sol's Kuiper belt is named (Righteously so!) after Her. It's not quite the same thing, but I'm a Pope in the Discordian religion, and I make the rules, so it'll do.
When I'm in the mood for some Eris lovin', I go to the galaxy map, search for Sol and select it as my target (not a multi-jump destination). It is then highlighted in the usual way, and I turn my Lakon Type 7 - The "Halal Space-Pig" - to face Her, and eat a hot-dog (without the bun, obviously).

Hail Eris!

Players,

Please Stop. I am trying tobe Serious and Professional and you trolls are ruining my genuine suggestion that would benefit hundreds, if not thousands, of devout Muslim players in the universe of Elite Dangerous.

My reply was perfectly serious and also solves your problem. I'll say it again:

For the followers of Islam, praying in the correct direction is very important, so this begs the question:

Why would you want to PRETEND to be facing the correct way? Elite Dangerous is a game. The direction you face in-game is not real because nothing in the game really exists.

IMO, creating an in-game pointer to the Ka'bah would be an insult to Islam, because it could be construed as encouraging the faithful to pray in the wrong (real world) direction.

As suggested above, why not move the PC so that you face the Ka'bah when playing? This would result in the correct orientation at all times. You could also set Sol as the destination and point the ship that way too.

The sarcastic comment stop now please.

I've removed some posts and if it continues infractions will be issued.

I hope that this will not be considered sarcastic or offensive, but here goes. First, Elite: Dangerous is a game. It is not real. Second, wherever you are in the world will affect the direction you pray in (as you are aiming your prayers at a specific location, that of Makkah. This means that in the UK the faithful are praying in an East/South East direction, while those in Japan would be praying towards a Westerly direction. I am aware that there are 'compasses' (I do not know the correct term) so that with the correct calculations you can place your prayer mats towards the Holy City. Thirdly, why are you playing when you should be praying (rhyme not intended)? I know of somebody who has set up an alarm system on his computer so that, 5 minutes before each prayer time he gets notification of this, so that he can pause what he is doing and be praying at the correct times.
Please understand I am NOT mocking your (or any other) religion. However, the devout (I do NOT mean fanatic) worshipers will make sure to set in place procedures to allow them to show their faith in a clear and appropriate fashion. To my mind, praying (true prayers, not "Please don't let me blow up before I get to a repair location" type of prayers) should be done in the real world, not a make believe one (however good or realistic it is). Be at peace.

Exactly this ^

The OP's suggestion makes no real sense for a game.

As a Muslim myself,

The suggestion is a bit odd as the game is not real life of course, but it does pose the question.

Would that be the case in the far future when we explore the stars, would we [as Muslims] still direct our prayers towards earth?

I guess I will never know in my lifetime.

/me wants to fly a real spaceship =[

The main problem with your request is that Islam pretty much believes in the flat earth theory so to claim otherwise even in a game would be heresy and a punishable offense.

Qur'an 15:19, 20:53, 43:10, 50:7, 51:48, 71:19, 78:6, 79:30

If it didn't wouldn't you technically be able to pray in the opposite direction of mecca since the earth is a sphere you'd still be facing the correct direction.

Wouldn’t praying to a pretend in game deity go against your real life religion policies?, plus as the in game universe is not real and has been created by man wouldn’t that then be praying to a created idol, and in Abrahamic religions idolatry is strongly forbidden.
Next you would be asking frontier to install prayer rooms or mosques into the space stations.
I imagine that frontier would prefer to keep all religions out of the game.
