Newcomer / Intro Please align with ship trajectory

I fly with flight assist off and I keep getting this message when I try to enter into supercruise or hyperspace from normal flight. I can get it to work by waving my joystick around and tossing the aircraft hopefully on the right trajectory so I can launch into frameshift. I was wondering if there was some obvious indicator that tells me which way to position my ship that I am missing, or if there is some trick to it. Any help would be appreciated.

When you have a target locked, be it a station a planet, another solar system, you should have a small crosshairs with a blue dot in it to the left of your radar. When the blue dot is in the centre of your cross hairs, you are pointing towards your objective. if you see a blue circle with a dark grey/black middle your objective is behind you.

In FA off you cannot enter SC or jump unless your ship is pointing in the direction of travel. You must actually be pointing the way you are going. The in-cockpit displays only relate to where you're ship is pointing.

You've got two options.

1: Watch the direction of the space dust, turn your ship so that the space dust seems to be coming from the center of your view.

2: Toggle FA off to align with your target as your drive charges.
