+1 from me , i wasnt to happy that youre effectively a sitting duck while using the FSS either. I can imagine a few panicked explorers faffing with the controls trying to shut off the FSS when they get attacked.

How about letting us use the FSS in normal cruise so I don't end up getting yanked out and interdicted 3 times in a row whilst trying to map a single planet?

The FSS view has potential for a lot of shortcuts into other menus (like the system map), but the chat function would be especially helpful. At least we can see now immediately if something is sent to us, compared to the other map screens.

I completely agree, and it wouldn't be necessary if FSS mode and planet scanning would actually play out in the cockpit, cough cough.
