If they do this (which perhaps they should, or perhaps not necessarily) then they would need to balance this against any future Multicrew expansions or additional roles added, like ships engineer etc. They would also need to decide how to treat the income from a wing mate, as either part of a Multicrew session, or as part of a normal wing equal share.
I thought we were all onboard with this being a game in ongoing development? Can't they just do what they have to do to make it work *now,* and then change it as they add updates (*if* they add updates)? I don't think they need to pre-emptively balance everything against a bunch of hypotheticals; they never have in the past.
To start with they could at least allow any group of 4 players to be grouped together in any combination of multicrew and wings; so you could have a full Cutter+1 ship escort, or two Clippers with one gunner each, etc. And the cash splits could work the same way they do now, just propagate the payout system down the line: Each ship in the wing gets the wing's "cut" (even though it's not a cut anymore it's multiplied payouts) of money generated, and any crewmember onboard would get a crewmember's "cut" of whatever the ship was receiving.
I'm sure the technical hurdles may be vast, but the game balance issues, like figuring out how payouts would work, are pretty minor.
I realise there are perfectly legitimate reasons to want this but I can't help thinking it'd also provide a terrific opportunity for scoundrels to indulge in MC-related shenanigans and that might be why FDev are reluctant to implement it.
Aren't shenanigans precisely the entire *point* of multicrew?
