Engineers Please change collection limpets

With the implementation of materials I think collector limpets should be changed. They are more of a necessity than a convenience. Gathering the right materials is grindy enough without having to manually scoop each item separately.

I do like the idea of collector limpets as they are and I'm not in favour of a magnetic scoop or some form of tractor beam.

I think that collector limpets only really need a couple of tweaks in order to be viable in 2.1.

First of all, I think the limpets themselves need to actually be attached to the controller for the purposes of outfitting. As it stands, any ship has to sacrifice two modules (cargo rack and controller) in order to run limpets. On combat ships this is not feasible.

Secondly, allow limpets to be deployed and recalled, perhaps using the screen between our legs. It could read Ship - SRV - Drones/Limpets - Fighters (for when 2.2 is implemented).

Finally, allow limpets to refuel themselves from the ship's fuel tank, effectively making them re-usable.

Keep the higher class of limpet controllers as being able to control more drones simultaneously.

at first they should fix the Limpets. At the Moment of writing they are still buggy as hell. Standing just right under the cargohatch and doing nothing(!) for seconds and making detours of lightyears. And they have to increase the speed again, they lowered it with 2.1 and it makes mining just impossible. I don't go mining since 2.1, it makes just no sense anymore.

Now..
The Idea about 1 integrated Controller (maybe standard and little bit worse, so that the advanced ones still have a reason to outfit), so that we only have to take a Cargorack in combatships sounds nice.
Refueling limpets from ship? I would say pls no! Because of the same reason we can't refuel our SRV from the Ship. The Ship uses an hydrogen-to-helium fusionreactor (as far as i know) and this would be WAY to much power for a vehicle or a limpet. They are using different sort of fuel.
BUT
The Idea of reusing them with synthesize fuel like for SRV sounds okay, but is not really necessary.
 
I think the Limpets are fine as they are now, but I would prefer to be able to recall them back into my ship when they are done collecting. While I know it is just a game, I always feel so sorry for the poor things when it comes time to leave the salvage site. After working their little butts off for me, I must jump away leaving them all alone in the void. :(

I would feel better if I could bring them back into the ship, and let them die their natural death when their timer runs out. Or better yet, as you guys suggested, let us RE-USE them! Then we wouldn't have to use up so much of our cargo space for Limpet storage.

That could become a game mechanic of sorts... Trying to decide how many Limpets to bring with you, since although reusable, they would still run the risk of destruction from outside forces while doing their work.

I like the concept of limpets as loadable ammo for the controller module. I do think they should be able to be recalled but their timers should not reset. But yes, I agree that they shouldn't take up cargo space, they should be ammo. That would open up some possibilities for replenishing them via the mats system, and also buying mods for the controller that could increase the ammo cap, increase their duration, make them a bit faster to retrieve, etc. Lots of possibilities there. I do like the basic setup and premise for the limpits - I think it's quite slick actually.
 
I like the idea of re-usable limpets... perhaps this could be implemented as a 'perk' acquired from one of the Engineers...?
(after they fix the wretched RNG system of course)
 
It would make me pretty happy if collector limpet controllers came with their own, reusable limpets. Having them expire doesn't do much to make things more fun, and I can't think of anything that would be made unbalanced by making them last indefinitely. Their purpose is entirely to improve quality of life for the user and they have no secondary use.
 
are opening another limpets post?? what is wrong with the other 20?

limpets are a tool for miners and pirates, and a convenience for the rest as you don't need to grab everything dropped.

I think the biggest problem with limpets is how slow they are. Higher class controllers should buff the limpet speeds.

are you asking to change a mechanic for just the time it will take you to upgrade your ship ?? ok, so you fill up your cargo hold and bags, then what? asking to change the limpets to get only the materials you need? this is why it is a convenience.

They are slow stupid fragile pieces of crap that don't last long. I guess some change would be nice. 1 HP crap is not really fun to have.
 
I understand the frustration, generally I'm ok with them, but, I would like to see them not explode really easily if your moving at all.

I'd like to be able to have a collectore colleting while I am in battle, this would make them really useful.

They are FAR too slow to drop things off.

It would also be a bonus if you didnt need your scoop open all the time, as in, when they reached your scoop, they auto deployed it for you for a moment to drop off the goods.

You need 1 for the controller, yep. 1 for cargo .... i assume you mean to hold the limpets- but... what about picking up "cargo".. or are you just collecting "pixie dust for the engineers"...if this is the case... then, yea.

An engineer made control module
FD could make an Engineer controller module, complete with wheel of fortune RNG- such as
faster speed(we want this as standard)
smart moves- oh item x is on the other side of that HUGE ROCK- i`ll slam into it- troloolol...
longer range (handy for low level controllers)
longer timer before it dies.. just why do they have to die? "umm because"
reusable limpet ...it will last x times before blowing up...or an Everlasting limpet of collecting

If they did not die, the cost of them would be xxx time more expensive for 1.. i assume. But if the engineer had a "SMART IDEA"... and you got "an Everlasting limpet of collecting "...because you rolled 100, then that is fair(ish).

Refuel from you tank- fair enough, but.. the SRV's can't- which means FD will ignore our pleas....alms for the poor!

What i would like to see them implement

Smart limpets- you can select what cargo type you would like the dumb drone limpet to pick up.. if you can see it is illegal on you screen, then why cant the dumb drone see this too..
Simply click the box in you collector controller(you did spend x millions on it) and say "OI! divna pick tha` up, ya nugget!" (Do no collect that item, idiot). Happy commander.

This would mean we could kill ships(or pirate them) and collect "stuff we want" without the security wings scanning, scanning, SCAN DETECTED(again).. and saying oh illegal and stolen cargo / illicit- FINE of x millions..thanks, have a nice day CMDR... GRRR

Suffice to say, we all would like more stuff, but get the basics right... RNG.. hmm, seems a lot like grindfest for roll the dice.. then you get a crap level 5 roll, which is worse than your current level 3 stats-

The only thing I am asking for is a faster collection speed. Anything else is you misinterpreting my post.

This. Have some rep. Please devs ignore everything in this thread. Spend developer time much better elsewhere please. This is pounding a non-issue which does not make sense.

+1 from me. Leave limpets operating as they are....I fly a mining spec T9...can i have super duper gunz and egstra fick armor !!!!!

Really frustrating.

That's intended. If you leave them to just collect (usually closest to furthest object is the order) they won't destruct. If you target a thing they'll destruct once it's collected.

I don't know why it's intended though, it is odd.
