Engineers Please change collection limpets

I would like to see limpets converted into ammo that is stored in the programming module in question, as well as being able to manufacture additional limpets as required with synthesizing. It would at least begin to justify why we need a sixer rack to have three collector limpets up.

Honestly, any way to manufacture limpets in-ship would be fantastic in my book, I would imagine it would help out the Fuel Rats when they're 8kly out of the bubble and get multiple calls.

On the other hand, if we couldn't get a hydrogen fuel cell or super-capacitor installed on an SRV we're sure as hell not going to be able to install them on a limpet.

Stop the limpet destruction each time you send them to grab a specific target. Looks like a bug from where i sit. Is it ?
Really frustrating.

A limpet targeted to collect one thing will retrieve the object much faster (And presumably burn more fuel doing so)

Useful for when you need to grab the meta-alloy and cheese it.

The new outfitting screen tells you the speeds for limpet collection in both modes, I believe.

The solution for limpets are as follows:

1) Allow us to synthesize limpets
2) Show us a timer for each active limpet out collecting so we know when they will expire
3) Allow us to pre-program preferences for our limpets a) Ignore common materials b) ignore certain ores etc c) prioritize high value ore
4) Make them smart enough not to crash into asteroids
5) Allow for refueling / recalling them.
6) Create occasional malfunctions and destruction that creates the attrition.
7) Fix them so they ignore jettisoned / abandoned ores

Error.. a pirate will need to grab either Jettisoned or abandoned 'whatever'.

Limpets are not broken, now, if you could stop bringing up solutions for your own self-created problems, that would be great.

And cargo!!!
The problem is, if you let them scoop around in a RES after killing some pirates, they pick up stolen cargo and they bring them back to you like a stupid dog even after you jettisoned it to avoid trouble with the security.
And if you actively choose what they should scoop, they self destruct. That's all really annoying.

Now that they're a necessity for all, I would like them to make Limpet Controllers work like SRV Hangars. The class denotes the number of limpet bays and the rank as normal the quality of the control. You then buy a limpet for the bay, just like an SRV and you launch and have to recall it once done or you will lose it. When it's low on fuel it would return automatically and couldn't be launched until you refuel it, however they would choose to work that.

The best bit is the base mechanics are already in :)

the only reason you could say that is because you don't know programming or you have seen the actual code of Elite. I find hard to beleive it is the second option in your case..

Uhh HELLO - If I jettison (abandon) something my collection limpets should NOT go right back out and pick it up. Uhh Logic? Common sense?

My hold is full I'm ditching indite because I need to make room for painite - but nope every time I eject the indite, the collectors immediately pick it up and bring it back. The only way around this 100% of the time is to detonate my limpets eject them, fly away and wait for them to detonate and then continue collecting. But some of the painite etc by then will have "vanished".

You totally miss the point. When mining, you often end up needing to jettison less valuable minerals/metals to make room for the more valuable ones, or even jettisoning limpets themselves. Unfortunately, active limpets with cheerfully pick these up and return the to your hold. It's not game breaking, but it is a little irritating.

It's very annoying. It couldn't be to hard to flag all jettisoned stuff as not to collect. And this is no new problem. I was there from the start, it's only much more annoying now because the limpets are necessary in the core gameplay and not only for mining.

The only thing I am asking for is a faster collection speed. Anything else is you misinterpreting my post.

Faster collection is definitely needed. Collecting mats and metal is becoming a Time Wraith. 35-40sec to deplete a rock, 2-3 minutes waiting on limpits to collect. I mean they fly straight at the stuff, then make a loop 10k beneath your ship to bring them back? The thing I would like to see is to be able have them ignore illegal canisters - just a simple on/off button in the 4 panel would be nice.

They broke them in 2.1 as far as I can tell, speed got halved and their pathing involves a ludicrous distance below your cargo hatch.

Funnily enough once they get going they seem to ignore the distance and just fly back and forth without always going 1km below, but either way they have been downgraded and thats my only complaint as a downgrade when they became mandatory just seems a bit lame.

Before I unsuscribe this (IMO useless) post, every time you call out common sense, you really mean 'easy' the game mechanic. I'd like the limpets to collect only minerals and to work the way you describe but only for minerals just to see how quickly you come up with another complaint about them not getting the materials etc, but actually, I don't care. I find them appropriate and a convenience against having to manually scoop everything. Not good enough for you? of couse.
