Please consider Linux support

Dear Frontier,

I have been enjoying the game for more than 2 years but I unfortunately had to give up playing because I refuse to use windows again. It might be a personal issue but I am definitely not the only one. I fear being watched constantly when I am using windows. It took away the fun of everything and couldn't stand it any longer. We all know how bad the privacy policy is. And I am not the only one struggling with this issue. There are more and more people everyday who get aware how scarce privacy is. The only option I feel comfortable with is using Linux.

I am using Linux for while now and I love it. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I don't see a way of going back to windows right now. Even if the privacy issue wasn't as bad as I hoped to I still love Linux.

[TL;DR]
Is there anyway possible Elite Dangerous ever will come to Linux? Linux maybe doesn't have the best drivers or performance but it is much lighter than windows and has a huge community who constantly help each other out. I have asked it on different forums and many are interested in Linux support, not just 'old' players but also people who had never heard of the game have interest. [/TL;DR]

There are a lot of Linux users who game on there Linux PC even without the performance as good as windows they still keep playing it. It would be a missed opportunity if you wouldn't add support for Linux. It doesn't have to be working on every distro but if you could get it to work on Ubuntu or SteamOS then you have made a huge leap in the right direction and you will meet a whole new playerbase. Many indie games have support for Linux and they are widely popular because of that but most AAA titles are still lacking Linux support. If you as a major game dev company could make a change to that. You will earn respect by many and will boost the sales and popularity.

After the switch I knew I was giving up a lot but I never imagined it would be this bad. I miss Elite Dangerous more than anything. I couldn't sleep for nights because I saw others enjoying the game while I can't. Please consider it, it would mean the world to me if you would.

Thank you for reading this and have a great day,

Much love.

CMDR RonkerZ

P.S.

I will send you stroopwafels if you consider Linux support.

you falling out with windows is not a reason for the devs to have linux support. if you don't want to use windows, then I suggest you buy a ps4. don't go for xbone. it runs on windows.
not enough users use Linux for support.

As the below spreadsheet shows, almost half of the top 100 Steam games have native linux ports, and around 2/3rds run largely happily on Wine:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_3JL9Y98GGU3gwXW_tBMDsTlYeznzs1nX0DXWRZ0zcc/

There's a number of games with smaller player bases than ED that have linux ports. And keep in mind, this is steam stats, ED is likely a larger game than it's steam stats suggest as they have their own distribution platform and a number of players may not have linked ED up with their Steam account.

So this idea that the Linux player base isn't large enough to make ports worthwhile seems to be an idea that plenty of game publishers disagree with.

Yep, you are right. By the way, there's not a large enough Linux users base cause there are not enough ported games. Port ED to Linux, and you'll see a very huge Linux users base appear (I'm one of them...). I just use Windows cause I can't play from Linux (I switched from OSX to enjoy Horizons...).
To me, in the 21 century, have a game not fully working in Windows, macs and unixes is synonymous to naive design. But who am I to talk about...
