Please, <don't> change this money farming bug ! I want my next ship fast!

This must be a bug: in about any resource harvesting area but especially in the dangerous ones, there are periodic fights between pirates and miners and the cops. Get in the fight after it starts (you see the flashes a long way away), fire something at the pirate while it fights the others and ka-ching! his bounty is awarded to you, as if the others wouldn't have been there.
100k on a Pithon plus another 100k for some small fish for zero damage and no searching....Then dock somewhere, get the credits, fly back.

As I said, this must be a bug

The "last player to hit a ship that is subsequently destroyed by NPCs" feature was introduced after complaints of kill stealing by NPCs.

No, not a bug. Just programming. ;)

It's a bug. Or lazy man's quick fix.
If it were programming, it would be easy to divide the spoils at least to the number of ships attacking in the last minute of so, if not dividing the spoils according to each attacking ship class, not to get into damage or time spent fighting...

Still not a bug - it's enforcing "last player shot wins" - if the last shot was an NPC's then the player gets it. If the last shot was another player's then the other player gets it.

In respect to the Multi - Players the last shot gets the kill. Are you kidding me? Surely it is still the one which caused the most damage? I talked with another CMDR about it during BETA 2 and he was getting the kills because of his Burst Laser caused the more damage than my last Laser Beam. Plus any canon shots added to more previous damage also. Are you serious the one last shot gets it? I can't see this possible as it has no reality nor fairness to it. Granted the bounties go to the only player among NPCs but again the full bounty is totally unjust and massively unfair when they do all the work. So much rubbish in this game now!

Last shot gets the bounty has always been in place - the only change was to stop NPCs getting it.

So, get yourself some turrets and pulse the .... out of his last points of hull. Still an exploit. It breaks the game: after I spent hours to trade those 200k credits with my 16 ton cargo space, to have it handed to you on a plate like this...

PS: what's a BH ? you talking about me?!? :D

So, whoever shoots last at the pirate, gets the bounty. So on server they keep track of fights, something like ship AAAA hit by ship BBBB, and that "hit by" entry is re-written with each hit.
It may be feasible to add beside that rolling "hit by" a 10 cell registry, reset on starting a new battle. If damage (hull damage) sustained from new ship, then that ship gets added to the registry. On exploding, the spoils get divided to the ships that contributed (NPC and CMDR alike). Perhaps with a bonus for the last shot fired (something like double the share). If the devs can allocate more memory to this, they could get into partitioning the bounty by ship potential (class, loadout), even damage inflicted. But this last stage would need a lot of overhead

How'd that sound?

Im not 100% convinced it is last hit that counts..
i was at a combat zone yesterday (i was in open but there were no cmdrs that i could see any where)
And there was a capital class ship 2.
Any way i usually record when in open play in case something funny happens. So i have a video of what i mean..

but any hoo i engage the anaconds and deffo get a good amount of damage in on it. But no credits for killing it.

Which part?
The part where you think this is a solution. The way it is is the way it is because bounty hunters are supposed to fight over bounties, not share them. I believe there's a post on the first page that says this. People whined and now NPCs no longer have the capacity to steal kills, with one exception.
.

Capital ships are the exception. They count as a player, so they can steal kills.

Indeed - Capital ships used to be just like any other NPC until the exploit of sitting next to a Capital ship and doing next to nothing yet getting all the kills was fixed - by making Capital ships able to take the kill with a later shot, as you say.

would be better if it was % damage inflicted.
because i wasted a lot of my ammo on quite a few ships that i then got no money for lol.

Hey man, cops get paid their salaries, we get paid our bounties. And if the miners score a kill - well, they do it for the sheer unadulterated pleasure of the kill. They don't want the bounty money they're already earning money from taking out their frustrations by pummelling innocent asteroids! Did I mention miners are psychopaths :D
