Please don't do water-,dark-ride or wooden-coaster DLCs

Because you just have showed nearly nothing about dark-/water-rides and the wooden coasters, i hope they will still be in the main game. But it is so less time till the release and nothing was shown till now (ok some early wooden coaster prototyp was shown, but nothing more... or did i miss something???).

So I hope you just holding it back for the release, a park without at least some of them wouldn't be a real themepark! So maybe hold some (dark-/water-rides) back for DLCs, but put at least a few of them in the main game... please don't do this big failure, it would hurt your reputation a lot. And I am starting to get a bit worried that our hopes will be destroyed on release... so please tease them ;)

you sound outdated... the entire game is a DLC!

We all know PC will have ADD-ONS just like RCT3

see my thread here https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...GC-Add-Ons-effect-Park-Sharing-or-Multiplayer

Although a box edition would be nice for gifting [up]

Nice but Pointless, because you would have to Download the whole Thing or a big Chunk of it anyway. So in principle you can always gift the Game via Steam pretty painless. I personally would prefer a boxed Version, just because i'm an Oldschool Gamer and really love good printed Manuals :D But i think that is too late for us, as we already have purchased the Game.

It is not about that we don´t want them to make DLCs... an add-on kind of DLC with new themes, some rides and maybe a new feature (pools, animals) i am ok with. But what i wanted to say is that i can´t stand add-ons that are driven because of rides that should be in the main game. For example: "The great dark ride -DLC" - you want to build dark rides? Than you have to buy the 40€ dark ride dlc. Or the "Big Water Fun Ride"-DLC... if want a water ride just buy this one, we will give you five for only 25 €... Just don´t put essential things for a themepark simulator into a DLC!

I'm not normally a fan of DLC but done properly I will support a large expansion.

Personally I think water rides is one category that would work well as an expansion pack as it doesn't make sense to spend long on water physics when they only have one or two water rides, but if they did an expansion they could justify focusing their time on those sort of systems. Log flume has been pretty much confirmed for the final game, but I can see lots of things that an expansion would allow them to add regarding water rides.

Wooden coasters has already been confirmed for the base game and is already listed as a category under coasters in Alpha 3.

Dark rides is something that doesn't appeal to me as much as it does to some others, but I can definitely see merit in a full blown dark ride expansion. I'm sure the main game will already further improve the ability to make dark rides, but an expansion that focused on this area could add a lot more to that.

I'm not a fan of DLC where they just add more content (eg rides/themes). Sure it's great to get more of this but I like an expansion to also add new systems that they didn't have time to work on previously.
I understand if you expected more from water/dark rides that will be in the base game (we don't actually know yet what will be included) but IMO they've already got the core things that we expect from a coaster game and it is all at a very high standard. They can't include everything otherwise the game wouldn't be released for another decade.

As long as they do continue to support the game after release with meaningful updates/expansions, and eventually support User-generated content, then I'm more than happy with the way things are going.

DLC =/= Expansion Pack
DLC = anything that is downloadable content: PC is a DLC based game.

PC will have add-ons! I am also hoping for a Planet Safari game (which has sort of been "unofficially" leaked) and maybe that will be an expansion to PC hopefully [yesnod] but I am still betting PC will have smaller add-ons such as water parks, maybe game stalls or hotels. A lagoon water resort would make for a good add-on! and then maybe a carnival/circus and game pack add on?

The point we all agree on though, is that we do NOT want Microtransactions. all add-ons need to be large enough to prevent compatibility issues with some people not having certain add-ons. IMO scenery add-ons will not be needed once UGC is released/added in [up]

Personally I wouldn't be too bothered by add-on expansions for the game, obviously depending on how much they are going to be.
I've grown up playing games like Rollercoaster tycoon and the sims which are all about expansion packs as well.

I do agree that it shouldn't be an excuse to remove main features of the game though. We know we are getting wooden coasters so we can cross that off the list. The dark rides and water rides I don't think we have been told enough at this stage to know how much, if any, will be in the game.

I wouldn't mind add-ons for things like carnival games, water slides, pools and other themes. Just things that aren't essential or needs to a majority of players.

I think its stupid to argue about this at the Moment ... Don't you know how marketing works ? Why would they reveal everything they got before the actual release ? It would just be stupid ... Games like battlefield etc dont reveal too many things before they release the game aswell.

I am sure that atleast wooden coasters will be there .. And if not they are not

In my opinion frontier does great work and we should let them work and not set them under pressure.[wink]

I'd be fine with bigger expansion packs that add more themes, rides, shops, etc. And of course it would be great with packs that add sort of game-changing things, similar to Wild and Soaked for RCT3, which really added huge new gameplay elements beyond just new rides and themes. I would be quite disappointed if they added dark rides in one pack, water rides in another, one theme in a third, etc. I would feel really cheated if that was the case.

Additional I want to ask why people think frontier will do such things as "5 Walter rides for 25€" ... Seriously die they ever do such a thing ? Back these days soaked and wild were huge updates for a kinda cheap price , so why blaming or accusing a company for things they never did? Sure we dont want those things to happen but why would they

I'm sure they'll want to continue to make money to pay all their staff. If that's the case, they'll need something fresh....it may not be DLC, but it could be expansions.

Maybe 2 expensionpacks like Soaked and Wild but if they are gonna make tons of small DLC I wont be happy.

Just 2 expension packs with lots of content. Not a few dollars per extra ride or theme the alpha was already expensive enough :p

It seems that you know something we don't know! Sehr gut!

Yes that's true!

I think Cities: Skylines hasn't done too bad with their DLC strategy...

If PlanCo was to later come with "Snow Day" expansion (where it can actually snow in any existing park) or DLC that would appeal to certain regions, I wouldn't mind it.

Cities Skylines DLC methodology is an interesting approach in the Online Software Distribution Platform era. Legitimately can see what the community likes and does not like per each DLC pack. Granted with the setup as well, you aren't required to buy the DLC's to continue playing the game as you normally would.

Whereas with expansion packs, getting an expansion pack can (and generally does) drastically change the underlyings of how the game functions. [big grin]

Why so melodramatic? They have not once indicated this is something they are planning so why people always fear the worst I'll never know. We are aware that all the unseen content will be shown in the next fortnight or so (from what those that visited Frontier have said it's going to be something very special!) so let's just wait and see what they have up their sleeve before jumping to conclusions.

Games like PC I don't mind paying for DLC, as I will be enjoying the game months down the line. I reckon they will go down the City Skylines approach, which is fine by me. I reckon they will go with part free and part paid, i.e a free theme, and entertainers but maybe additional rides/shops and scenarios being paid.

Having a more complexed security/staff and stock mode as free major update, but if you want additional scenarios which reflect this you pay extra. No matter what Frontier do they will be complainers.

Like I said : DLC =/= Expansions packs

- DLC = New Content
- Expansions = New Game mechanics

When you sell new game machanics, you sell another way to play the game. It's almost a different game, which is normal to pay.
When you sell the content, you just create, in the same game, inequalities between poor and rich players ... which is a shame.

Not to mention that when studios sell DLC (let say a new "shop" for example) then this should be sold for a few cents, to meet the proportional margin relative to the game price.
But of course, it's never the case in reality, and instead they are sold for few euros ...

It's great that you talk about Cities Skylines, because this is the perfect exemple of what I try to say for a long time.

Like you can see on the official website, they sell "expansions" (and not "DLC")

It was almost "fair" to see expansions packs, and the only place where you can see the term "Downloadable Content" is on Steam, because it's where you "download the content in your library"

... But, this road is always dangerous, for us, the players, because the risk is that the studio becomes greedy, and it is perfectly the case here : they started to sell overpriced DLC, instead of just "expensive" Expansions, with, for exemple the "Stadiums" for 5,99€ ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/536610/ ) or 9 pretty simple buildings for 4,99 € ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/515190/ )

Just no comment ...

I think that what people are agree to pay for is new "FEATURES" or new "GAME MECHANICS", not the "CONTENT".

On the contrary, given the many requests about UGC on PlanetCoaster forum, I think that we want free content updates + user generated CONTENT, and I'm sure people are ready to go to the checkout when it will be possible to add new MECHANICS (resort management, water park management, zoo management, etc... the list is long). But just don't sell the content !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In many countries DLC means : a small overpriced content generally purchasable by micropayment. (like the few buildings for 5€ above)
I don't know if it's the same in England or USA, but it's the case in France, where this acronym was kidnapped a long time ago by some too greedy studios. (yes, it's sad, but it's like that)
If you want to sell something called DLC here, then shame on you, and you will not want to read what people will think of Frontier after this.

So please, stop using the word "DLC", it has become a cancer, nobody want that !!!
Give us some free content, let us make the content, and sell the new game mechanics with expansions to earn money.
Many people will be happy to pay for Expansions packs in a few months/years to renew the gaming experience, while enjoying free content updates meantime.

I'm sure you understand Brett !
