PLEASE dont make me loose cartographer data on ship destruction.

This is the second time I got back into a populated area after 2 weeks of exploring. When I reach the first station to deliver all my data I was intercepted by FSD thingy device 2 times right after eachtother.

Now I lost all my data, 2 weeks of collection. I am still down at 100.000 and after 1 month of playing I still dont have that damn detailed scanner.

Please. This is so overkill. You can loose everything by not any fault of my own.

I dont even feel like playing anymore.

Not if you had to go collect it by returning to the same place and take the "black box" from your previous ship with your cargo scoop.

But you dont even see the slighest problem with loosing 2 weeks of exploring just in 2 minutes, and half to do the same thing all over again?

The Black box is a cool idea.
Deep space salvage mission.
Not just for PCs who lost their ship but as missions as well.
Image a collect a Black box mission that was 3000 light years out

I really like your black box idea, and I agree entirely that it's way too harsh at the moment. Imagine if you had been out there for two months, or even longer !! There's dangerous and then there's soul destroying.

Information cannot be destroyed - that's physics, yo.

Whilst it does suck it's the way ED is. It rewards practice, planning and being prepared. You should have improved your ship more for a long voyage to protect yourself in the event of an interdiction/emergency.

All other professions lose their stuff when they die.

The black box idea does have some merit however :)

My problem is games being ruined by people wanting all risk reduced or removed. I can't remember the last time i died in Elite and i only fly a Cobra.

If your having trouble then I can only suggest you work on your combat skills before heading out on any more adventures.

I prepared as good as I could by having 1000 credits when I start playing the game. And all I could afford was the fuel scoop.

Happened o me my second and third trips. First one went fine.

It is frustrating, and I feel I was intercepted more when I had data...maybe just happenstance.

Anyways, too the point of the frustration, you're carrying valuable cargo so treat it as such....'cause apparently the NPC's do lol

/cry

The black box is a great idea.

Personally I prefer the idea of an expensive thingy you can add to your ship that sends 'a backup' of your exploration data back home. I think it would need to be expensive (so you need to make a serious decision about whether the cost of firing one off is worth it as 'insurance'). However, FD have made not the slightest noise that they are even thinking of this.

The problem for explorers is that they are forced to keep a potentially huge amount of data in their ship, if they want to do anything other than relatively short hops. Bounty hunters can suffer similar losses: if they get killed with unclaimed bounties, those bounties are lost. However, any BH with a small fortune in unclaimed bounties is making a decision to risk them, since they can go and cash them in pretty much whenever they want to ( a simplification, I know). So the actual risk is much smaller.

Well I only have the sidewinder with the basic kit. And I lost to a Viper something. And I was trying to run away as well by using FSD, 2 seconds to late. It burned down my shield in 3 seconds. I tried to not get hit by manouvering also.

I'm currently at the core in my Cobra. No guns though... Explorers generally don't carry them. I'm not looking forward to the last 500ly of the return journey.

Did you keep rolling and use lateral thrusters? kind-of corkscrewing-- and switch direction every few seconds so you don't black out.

This makes a huge difference to how easy a target you are, when running away.

Ahhh ok.

I don't mean to be rude but most people don't go exploring straight off the bat, they take the time to learn some of the game mechanics first, make some money to afford the better scanners and then go out.

For a new player in a sidewinder I think you found out how punishing ED can be for the new player, explorers especially.
