Please end the uber-pro-criticism...

... as I am very, very exhausted from reading the user-forums of my other game of choice, I´d kindly like to ask all of us to keep the level of communication they way it is still in this forum.

What am I talking about?
There´s a thread about the new docking computer I am very interested in. And in this thread there´s users complaining about the dc (docking computer) now making it "too easy". There´s users talking about "people without the neccessary dexterity to perform a manual docking". There´s even people complaining kind of "every feature that performs automated tasks leads to dumbing down skills and fits best into todays society".

In fact and examplary on topic of the dc:
- the dc is an optional device you can or cannot buy
- if you have the dc, you have to activate it (by slowing down a lot)
- using the dc seems to autodock your ship (releaving you of manual tasks) with the tradeof of being slower than a manual docking

Quote:
"Got to say I was disappointed too... Kind of given in to the whingers there a bit... Docking is easy if you practise... How the hell will people practise now if they're given the point and click route? A shame..."

("whingers", I am not a native speaker, could be a typo and "whiners" is what was meant - that´s what I want to talk about here. The ugly, disrespectfull word "whiners" and the ENTIRE thinking behind that).

Where is the shame in that? You are not forced to use the thing. You are not an uber-pro because you practised manual docking. You are not a better player and absolutely not a better person because you are the type of guy who wants everything the "hard" way. Plus: there might be lot´s of reasons to use automation devices. Hey: Han solo put his Falcon into autopilot mode on his flight to Alderaan.

I myself would prefer manual docking over the dc the most time. BUT: maybe I am at the phone. Maybe I check my systems. Maybe I am on the coms. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

I´d like to ask everybody to just let the people be. If YOU do not like a feature - don´t use it. If somebody else likes to use a feature: do not bash him. This is a hightech universe we are about to enjoy - docking computers are an obvious aiding device. Not the doors to hell.

Stepping away from the docking computer and speaking more general: stay polite, stay respectful. If you are the "always manual guy": you can do that, so be it. But please do not invert what you understand as a special ability of yours to being a disability of those who do not like your way. It´s disrespectful.

Thank you.

PS: if somebody opens a thread with the title "I do not like the purple colour", please DO NOT open a thread with the title "I do like the purple colour" - this is exactly the childish stuff happening in this other gamers forum I briefly mentioned. Use the first guys thread and post your point of view there.

wanted to DISAGREE on the REP answering: "Don't feed the troll", but it gives out neg rep.... I want to disagree the kind way, not that what you're writing on is wrong, in opposite instead, but just, don't feed the troll - that way around :D :D

cool story bro, you had me right up to the 'What am I talking about?' part.

Relax buddy, it's a forum, there's all sorts floating around here and half of them are crazy ... not me tho, no, no way ... I'm 100% totally sane :p

It's all just opinions and assumptions, or as I like to call it ... 'entertainment!'

:D

I believe you have to get to 15 posts before starting threads telling others what to do.

Yes because common sense is directly proportional to your post count that no one who has ever gotten laid cares about.

Right? Right?

No.

While I just started yesterday, docking is no big deal. If it was some experience to be enjoyed then there may be a reason to not have a docking computer. But if there is a docking computer I can activate that allows me to stand up, go use the bathroom and grab a beer then I'm going to go ahead and do it.

*repost as even though it auto **** curse words you still get warnings for it.

How is that even a discussion? Elite Dangerous is a hommage to the classic Elite game, among other things. And classic Elite without the good ole blue danube...unthinkable. Most people who complain are the standard mmo 'i want stuff hard so that others cant get it' crowd. I dont even pay attention to what they whine about anymore. Useless.

I just used the dc as an example what´s, in my personal opinion, starting to manifest here in the forums.

I think, the rudeness of the "real world" as it is today at some point has started to swap over into gaming. But then: "gaming" once used to be a thing we all did to relax and have fun.

"Gaming" should not be just another platform to express how powerfull/better/more intelligent/more rich/more superior we are. "Gaming" should be the platform to escape from the ugliness of the real world.

When I log into Elite Dangerous, I want to fly, trade, fight. I do not want to grab somebody else´s parking lot, I do not want to run over somebody because I am in such a hurry. I do not want to belittle "that other guy who can´t even afford a simple painting for his sidey" or who "needs to use the dc because he is obviously too dumb/too fat/too something."
I want to appreciate the guy who is just a better pilot and shot me down. I want to appreciate the pen&paper-guy who just knows all the REAL traderoutes.

I want to appreciate a community of gamers who love their game and love to share their gaming time with one another until they have to swap back into the real world.

I have to have at least 15 posts to politely ask for respect and tolerance?
Where does that come from?

The couple of weeks after a new release tend to be fairly choppy - new people come in from the rest of the Internet faster than we can tackle their misconceptions, and in many cases leave just as fast :(

In this case, you're right to point out a game with mechanics designed to build narrative will generally be more forgiving than games with mechanics designed generate challenge. Frontier have definitely looked for places to create meaningful challenges (power management, flight assist etc.), but docking is central to everyone's game so forcing one particular play style on that part would be unfair to those that are more interested in the skill of finding a good trade route than the skill of squeaking their Lakon through the aperture.

Let's be honest... The cheaper this game gets, the more people buy it.
The more people buy it, the more likely to "dilute" that initial alpha vibe that was going on around here not too long ago. Things are still pretty mellow and the devs / mods wont allow griefing, but a little change in impatience levels and self righteousness is to be expected.

Damn I'm a snob!

It will even out. Right now, we have a huge inflow of new players, asking the same stupid questions we all asked a few months ago, and annoying the "old pros" who now think they're far superior to the newbies. But the newbies will learn, and the old hands will mellow.

That said, I think the whole DC thread is kind of stupid. If you don't like a game feature, no one's holding a gun to your head forcing you to use it! And if you simply can't accept that other players want to use features that make the game slightly easier, you should probably only play Minesweeper, forever.

Are you requesting that we cannot make any negative comments about features because it might hurt the feelings of others who like them?

No.
I am absolutely requesting that you make negative comments about features you do not like since this is what helps the game develop. But I am also asking you to stay on the topic itself, as well as being respectful and polite leaving everybody as they just are.

To stay in the dc-example: the guy who likes the dc is neither nor fat nor unwilling to learn manual docking. He´s just a guy who likes the dc. Just as you might be a guy who doesn´t. We are talking automated docking here. Not religious or political believes. Not cultural differences, not educational or financial barriers. We meet here inside a gaming universe, trying to have fun, relax and forget our daily life for a few hours.

I think that´s the point, right? We can be pilots, pirates and traders here. We can be what we want - we do not need to be better or rude or impolite or successful. We do not need to fight for our position in society as we are sometimes forced to do in the real world.

I am not talking happy vibes here. Shoot me, if you see me in game.
Please: disrespect me as a trader when you are a pirate.
But please respect me as the person in front of my monitor at the other end of the world.

Well said OP.

The community has been a welcoming place throughout the process of development up until the point that different groups got into the game. Alpha got in and the way in which the wider backer community accepted this was generally great.

Then Prem Beta got in and the minority of 'flounce' and uninformed posts quickly hardened the attitude of some Alphas to reply with abruptness. Whilst it may be correct to encourage people to read previous threads on the same topic which give them the answer they are looking for, infinite ('Andrews Sayers like') patience makes more friends, and let's all remember, its one big single galaxy (unless you choose for it not to be).

With the lead up and opening to Beta its got worse. Too many folk launching threads without thinking about the original point of this whole process, mostly by people who should know better than reacting to first time posters and players. Elite: Dangerous got funded because we all pulled together. That's dev's, mods, Alphas, Betas, everyone. The game is about pulling together (certainly when we get to exploration). This community is better when its humour is inclusive, its posting is intelligent, informative, polite and supportive.

Basically the OP is just saying we should all follow Wheaton's Law.

"Don't be a "

And that's a bloody reasonable thing to say whatever your post count.
