Ships Please evaluate this fighting ship

This is my current ship build at Coriolis. I would like some thoughts. As a comment, I am a terrible fighter pilot. I have no idea if I am even hitting people with the single forward gun. That said, I am pretty sold on turrets because they can make hits, even when I can't.

I made elite in Trade and Exploration. I am only fighting NPCs'. I don't see that changing.

I think I have too many shield cells, but before I go engineering this ship I want some critique and ideas from people who spend more time shooting than I do.

Because I like my T-9, I have considered trying to build a T-10 gunboat. However, the power distributor on the T-10 seems to be a bit of a weak point with that plan.

Do you have the engineers unlocked? Engineering makes blowing things up much easier.

Here is a CZ Anaconda build by a top tier PvPer: https://s.orbis.zone/e4pf

For you, I would change all lasers to gimballed except for the rail guns. If you find the rail guns to be too frustrating to land, then go for gimballed overcharged multicannons with at least one corrosive experimental. Incendiary and auto loader are also good experimentals for overcharged multicannons. Do not do CZs, instead go to High Resource Extraction sites and target whatever security targets. Concentrate on getting as close to the multicannon reticle as possible. Let security take the aggro first.

However, if you truly wish to learn combat, I would use a Viper 3, Alliance Chieftain or FDL. They are much more maneuverable and it's the maneuvering that makes a combat pilot shine.

The best resource for combat is the Galactic Combat Initiative GCI discord.

Be sure to tell them that you are very new to combat. What is cool about the Galactic Combat Initiative are its resources and many builds that you can look up. They are mostly PvPers, but that means that the builds you get will be engineered optimally for defense.

If you're trying to learn how to be a better combat pilot, don't do it in an Anaconda. Get yourself a small or medium ship that has some decent maneuverability and start from there.

You'll never learn to be a better pilot if you sit in a large sluggish boat like that where all the guns auto shoot stuff for you all day.

As mentioned above the Conda isn't really the best choice for someone new to combat you need to start smaller with say a Viper mk 3 and work up through various REZ levels, start with gimballed weapons then try fixed once you become more proficient.

Ships worth checking our would include

Viper mk 3 and 4
Cobra
Vulture
FAS
Chieftain
Challenger
Krait mk3
Krait Phantom
Python
FDL
Mamba

Thing is all these ships have significantly different flight parameters so you really need to try them and see what one suits you best, I suggest the Krait mk3 as a decent starting point, it's not super agile but it does have an efficient boost cycle and a large PD and powerplant if required.

However, the power distributor on the T-10 seems to be a bit of a weak point with that plan.
that's why you would first of all slap charge enhanced + super conduits asap on that pd.

so many chaff launchers! they're pretty useless if you're such a big slow target. in a big ship you simply can't avoid damage, so go tanky and use those slots for shield boosters. if damage is too much, time to bug out or die.

also, turrets in full auto mode will fire for you but they're kind of reckless in that mode, so beware of friendly fire in furballs!

like others said, combat in small/medium ships is also very interesting, i would greatly recommend messing around with eagle, viper, vulture and fdl. there you can actually use chaff to good effect. i know you are going for turreted barge type but why not give a spin to e.g. an eagle with fixed weapons. go smash a dozen of them and see if you like it, eagles are cheap as peanuts and a load of fun for the peanut!

Try this T10 build it's based on another commanders Hybrid Tank concept, essentially a smallish shield strength engineered for fast regen and plenty of hull and module protection, weapon array is a mix of turrets, gimbals and some dumbfires for good measure! ;)

Open engineers, open guardian shield reinforce module, build shield tank Krait MKII (something like this), train NPC pilot.
You will be able to do any non-wing combat mission, hazRes sites etc. with a can of beer in one hand.

An Anaconda is OK when fully-engineered, but is just not up to it without engineering. The Vulture and FDL are good ships for RES farming without engineering.. Even with them, you have to be careful about which ships you fight with, and you have to practice to get the skills you need. When you have the engineers unlocked, you can build a shield tank that can just wade in and take on everything.
