PLEASE FD do a little QOL adjustment on scan times

I don't know why this happens to you, the only time I lose the scan in progress is when I accidentally target another planet while in system/global map.

Yup, I open the sys map all the time and the DSS continues scanning and finishes it, if you hoover again the object data will be displayed when scan is finished without needing to close/open the sys map again.

The only thing that makes the scan interrupt is selecting another object in sys map before the DSS has finished the scan. that action would untarget the object also from the cockpit and interrupt the DSS. But as long as you don't select another object, DSS goes on working.

100% sure, sometimes i go into the system map to select the next planet of value to scan while the DSS is still warming up like an old spectrum tape player, looking via the left panel of unexplored often just shows the closest unexplored rock and not that HMC you really want to scan

while in the system map the DSS makes no progress, you have to abort and wait until the final few seconds of the scan before entering the system map for it to complete the scan

This is not correct, it does complete, I have done it many times, you can mouse over other objects in the system map to check out their stats, which I usually do while waiting for the scan to complete, but you cannot select an object or the DSS will stop scanning until you exit and reselect your target, but it does run while in system map. Once the scan is complete mousing over the just scanned body will show the full details of the body without exiting the system map.

Beaten lol should have read the last post in the thread

IMO it's completely ridiculous the amount of completely DEAD game time I have to endure because of the length of time scanning takes. And I stress this is utterly DEAD gametime DEVOID of ANY gameplay.

Agreed OP. There's too much dead time throughout the game, so anything to reduce that would be most welcome.

A couple of things that *might* improve scanning :-

1. The better the % of materials the better the payouts (Polonium = $$$$$;) ) Incentive to scan all those landables.
2. Some form of feedback when the scan takes place rather than that whirly whirly thing - ideally in the left hand info screen:-
Starting Scanning...
Determining Object Type...
Object Type:- High Metal Content Planet

IO

This will be like the sim city loading screen

Loading sims....
Installing mayors wardrobe....
visualising canal barges....
drawing in clouds....
herding llamas...

Maybe this is an XBox thing. It would suck if it is - any other XBox people about to comment?

Kenneth - get a proper computer ;)

a lot of £ to justify just for one game :) plus i cant stick it in the living room it would clash with the sofa or something, and im lacking a man cave / shed / other banishment area!

there was another post somewhere mentioning the same thing from another xbox user, i can't find it again though, in fairness it only does happen if you try to load the system map within the first 5 seconds of starting the detailed surface scan, and it doesn't happen every time, but enough to wind you up.
i submitted a bug a while ago and was told they had replicated it and were looking into it. - sounds like you PC folk (majority of explorers who use the DSS) are unaffected though
