PvP Please help a bad fighting CMDR

O7
I'm getting depressed by being killed everytime I try to kill another CMDR. I NEVER managed to kill one, while i've been destroyed something like 10 times. I'm doing ok with the AI, doing bounty hunting regularly. I'd love to focus on PvP, but so far my experiences in that matter are just apalling.

Last time, I got interdicted by a scoundrel CMDR, who flied a Diamondback Scout, which I assumed was (correct me if i'm wrong) pretty inferior than my FDL.
My FDL has 4 gimballed pulse lasers, and an engineered gimballed multi canon. Most of my modules are A to B rate.

My problem is my opponents generally flies in a stationary position with throttle close to 0, and facing me most of the time. While I vainly try to get behind them, they simply pitch up or down to keep facing me.

My weapons also seem to do so little damage. Of course i 1st use laser tonbring shiels down and then multis, but my opponents are destroying me way more efficiently.

Can you PvP masters enlighten my cave ?
Best regards

If you could provide us with some video of your next fight, that would be fantastic.

There are just so many factors at play here. Maneuvering, pip management, ship build and statistics.

If you're in an FdL and being successfully face tanked by DB Scout, then your probably not engineered; whenever you talk PvP, the mantra is "engineer or die."

Like Cknarf said, we need video if possible, but also your build stats.

*slaps the rep button futilly

What Jason said. Engineering is key in PvP. KNOW that if the triangle that interdicted you is hollow, (s)he's engineered, to the gills. Doubly so if (s)he's smaller than you.

Gimbaled lasers are the worst weapons for PvP. Countered by chaff and dispersal PA and have horrendous DPS. PvP is entirely different game from farming PVE bots.

Lasers are bad unless they are long range or focused. With any other laser type, unless you're within 600m of your opponent, you are merely tickling their shields..

Good on you asking for help, OP. Get the details Cknarf and Jason asked for (video and build) and we'll get you on the road to good before you know it.

Sorry if I'm getting the wrong impression from what you said, but you make it sound as though the multi is your only engineering. As other have said, if this is the case, PvP in the wild is just an elaborate form of suicide right now. You need engineering, G3 at an absolute minimum, on all your weapons and key components, to be able to be compete with other PvP capable ships. An alternative while you get your ship set is stock duels, which can be very good for building skill and practicing tactics.

Thanks everyone for your answers !
Here is my FDL configuration : https://eddp.co/u/RWnteRJ6

You can see there are still several modules that need an A rate.
What suggestions can you give me beside that?

Reading your comments, it points out that engineering is a key factor for PvP. So I guess that after the long trading grind to the Type-9 i've been doing, I'm down for some engineer grind !
I only have a lvl 5 multi (efficient weapon + auto loader)

So, I see you described what I've been encountering of "face tanking" CMDRs
What flying technique can be efficient against that?
I guess getting behind is always the best, but in that situation it looks hard to do, at least for me

"Elaborate form of suicide." I have to remember that one.

I'm on ps4, so I don't really know how to get a gameplay video posted here, besides posting it on a social media.
My Ps4 is linked to my real name Youtube channel, so i'm not at ease posting it there. Twitch maybe? How do you guys do that here?

Some YouTube videos out there can be a great source of info. I can totally recommend any instruction from Cmdr Truesilver. Especially his tutorial thread w/ video concerning 'Circle Strafing'.

You can check it out here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...R-PvP-Vid?highlight=truesilver,+circle+strafe

If you're FdL is only boosting in the high 300's, you're not getting behind a player. I'm on my way to work so I don't have time to pick apart your build just now, but it's pretty un optimized to say the least. A quality FdL should be boosting at a minimum of 555+ for instance. Don't worry, we're going to get you straightened out, but it's going to take a LOT of work on your part, and a high degree of open mindedness. For starters, start reviewing these engineers, their unlocks & various services; if you want to survive at PvP, this is going to become a chapter in your Bible https://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers/

A rate everything

D rate fsd, life and fuel tank

Remove the scanner

Shields: biweaves or prism, I would go with prism.

Utilities: 1 chaff 1 heat sink, rest are boosters

Put intredictor on 1 spot

Put 2 SCBs

Now you are ready for engineering.

Ooh Lordy boost at 555
I've already made a few arrangements to it : https://eddp.co/u/oh6UgnrL

Thanks for your link I'll take time to learn things there

Thanks !
I've seen quite a few videos, don't remember this name, I'll look into it.

I remind a video in which the CMDR was deactivating the Auto-Pilot assistance to make u-turns to get behind his enemie's back. I tried it myself but couldn't get it to work properly. You guys have heard of that?

FA off flying is extremely effective in the FDL. Most of the best pilots I know turn it off and leave it off during combat.

If i understand correctly I should get rid of the discovery scanner and the planetary approach system to install the 2 SCB.
I haven't used those yet, they activate automatically when the shield boosters is triggered? Noy very familiar with shield boosters too.
I'm unfamiliar with the shield types, I had a prismatic on my Vulture but it seemed taking ages before charging up once depleted although it says it charges faster but gets destroyed faster), so I got rid of it. How are them better?
