Ship Builds & Load Outs Please help. How shield strenth work

Hello CMDRs!

It is might be a very simple question and it might already was asked many times.
Can you please explain me why I have 196 MJ shield on T-7 and 480 MJ on Python but both ships equiped with A5 shields and two A rated shield boosters. Both ships have nearly equal mass.

Hi, yeah it doesn't really add up anymore. I believe the original idea was that a multipurpose ship or combat ship had the emitters and hull geared more towards shielding so enabled better usage out of the same class generator than a bulkier less optimised T7 (which is cheaper).

Aside from that you are pretty much spot on, no reason to fly the deathtraps that are the T type ships unless you really enjoy the challenge (some do and have done so with success) :)

Thank you very much for the answer.

Now it is clearer for me that the shields strength poorly correlated between different ships and it is necessary to look at the performance of a particular vessel. It was not obvious for me.
And yes T-7 looks like flying coffin. T-9 has quite strong armor at least.

Ok, off the top of my head(in case I get numbers wrong)
Lets say an Asp can fit 5A or 6A shields.
what % better for the Asp is fitting the 6 class over the 5 class now ?

That depends if you have shield boosters as well or not. I always use edshipyard.com to check my fitting. A 6A has 234,02 MJ, a 5A has 207,75 MJ (without boosters). I guess you can do the math then ;-)
