Ship Builds & Load Outs Please help me build this miner

I haven't had a chance to try out the mining mechs so please forgive my ignorance

What is the best small ship to go deep core explody, subsurface AND surface deposit mining in? Basical just the new, not interested in the old. I don't want to use collectors because I enjoy scooping manually. Could I do this in a Viper4?

You need to launch prospectors but when I looked at a beta stream you seemed to need a lot of them (in fact he couldn't find any!) so I guess my Viper 4 might be out of luck there? Or was that just in the beta the dude didn't know how to hunt properly? I take it you need the ADS to find hotspots?

Thanks!

For mining using the new tools you need..

Detailed surface scanner (optional internal) for launching a probe into the ring, once it hits the scan effect spreads around the ring and hot spots appear in the system target list

Once you enter the hot spot the pulse wave scanner (utility slot) will highlight the best target asteroids in yellow/gold

Fire off a prospector limpet (optional internal) at one of them and check the target list in the third tab left panel for the type of mining deposit

Pick the tool for the job abrasion blaster for surface, drill missile for deeper deposits.

If there are fractures indicated in the scan place several seismic charges in some of these and retire to a save distance ;)

Use collector limpets to harvest the loot!

If you have access a Cobra 4 will work

Essentially you need a lot of hard points and optional internals to fit all the required equipment, a T10 is good but not the most agile when you're placing seismic charges. During the Beta I used a Challenger good agility, plenty of hard points and enough internals to fit all the stuff, mining lasers for all the tools and a KWS for the pulse scanner.

Brilliant!
I only have the Cobra 4 on my main account, which isn't my RP one, so would rather not use the ship.

Two more Qs plus a build for perusal!
Do I need to use the old school mining beam for any of the new stuff?
Assuming a pristine metallic area, are there many different types of surface and deep core scrub-able fragments? Will the 6 bay refinery be sufficient?

So, if I am not interested in old school mining, and just want to manually scoop the fragments (no collector limpets), would this build suffice?

Many thanks again!

Not really the yield from surface abrasion and drill missile mining (limited ammo BTW) is much higher but you need the pulse wave scanner to highlight the most likely asteroids.

There appears to be a lot of new ores available but you can filter out any ore you're not interested in refining and the collectors will ignore it so a 6 bin refinery would be fine

You could use most small ships for "manual" collection especially with the ores mined by the new tools, IIRC one of the frags I collected was 75%.

Anything with a medium hardpoint will work. Lasers don't work on the new deposits at all.

The prospectors only highlight the new deposits. You can go entirely without them and just eyeball it or use only one per scanner highlighted asteroid. It shouldn't limit you in any way.

Been deep core mining recently collecting opals and plumbite ores, typically deep coring a single asteroid will yield 2 - 4 million granted they are fairly rare but deep core mining is a great addition to the game.

You need the pulse wave scanner to find the correct asteroid, a prospector limpet to locate the fissures and the seismic charge launcher, collection limpets are handy but not essential and an abrasion blaster will allow you to collect the ore from the newly exposed surfaces for an additional several hundred k.
