Please help me choose a new ship!!!

I’m a returning playing having been a PS4 gamer who has now gone to the dark side of pc gaming so I could get decent vr. I’ve been grinding away happily in my cobra mkiii all week to get back to owning an asp x which I finally got this morning. But this is where it all went wrong! You see I have aspergers and sensory overload is a bit problem for me, in the real world I have to wear a hat out to stop light getting in too much and I have trouble with open spaces. So I got my asp and it came on to the launch pad and I realised straight away that the open cockpit was not good! It literally made me want to curl up in a little ball! It got even worse once airborne and quite frankly it is terrifying! So I limped it to the next nearest system with my headset half on so I could at least ground myself in the real world! By then I was literally in a full on cold sweat. I traded it in for a keelback and thought the ordeal was over but no! That has a really open cockpit too! So now I need to find a decent all rounder (still hedging my bets with which play style to go with) that doesn’t have me sitting with the whole of space at my feet! Tempted just to go back to a cobra but I really want to step up what I can do and where I can go. Please help so I don’t waste more money on ships my brain just can’t deal with! Thank you :)

Federal Gunship has a very cosy cockpit, you are surrounded by metal not glass.
Not a popular ship due to it's very low speed. The Federal Assault & Federal Dropship's share the exact same cockpit. They are faster - the Assault variant by a lot.

You probably want a Python, great all rounder. Cosy and dark cockpit.

That sounds ideal (apart from the speed!). Thanks for the reply, I’m sure it gets very boring with people asking about ship advice but in this case it was a pretty specific kind of thing I need help with! Stupid brain that ruins my fun :D

A python should do you fine when you have the funds for that, and my go-to diamondback explorer is pretty capable yet has a cozy cockpit...a dolphin might be a good interim choice as well, as it has nice cargo capacity for missions.

Diamondback was one I was considering but wasn’t sure if it was all open plan again. Seemed to be as close to the asp as I could safely go. Gutted as I loved my old asp when I played PS4!

I'd agree regarding the Python.

It always reminds me of a larger Cobra cockpit. I play in VR too and despite being a larger ship it's still cosy and very dark (in a nice way.) You should also be able to perform most tasks in a Python.

EDIT: ....and if you're looking for an alternative to a T6 the Dolphin is a very good compromise. It drops a C5 cargo bay but gets an extra C2 and C1, retains a good view but without being an 'open plan' cockpit.

You need a Python, or maybe an FDL.

I might help for you to watch some YouTube videos of different ships to see the cockpit layout.

Chieftain or Challenger may work too.
I don't really notice the cockpit too much after a while, so I'm probably not the best person for this. Lol

Yeah I tried to watch some YouTube stuff but seeing it on a flat screen is a very different ballpark to sitting there in the ship! It sounds so blooming stupid as I know it’s not actually real but it sure feels it sometimes :D

Yeh, I only notice the ones that are offset (in a bad way).
I think Lakon is def out of the running for OP.

Go for an engineered Python which is the best credit generating ship in the game.If fast and furious combat is your drug of choice go with an engineered Vulture then later on an engineered Fer de Lance. Alliance ships are also an option if you know how to use them after flying a Vultire and FDL. Want a Thargoid challenge a FAS is a good basic start with the Scouts. When you get to a combat Corvette or Cutter you might get bored as how easy it is to take out the NPC targets.

Just one to say, using vr is radically different to 2d, as you’ve found. But you can get used to it believe me. Try a Python when you have the funds, you can get them in a cobra mk3. One your totally used to that try the Asp again. Won’t be as bad as you remember.

That’s what I’m hoping. Plus I’m really pushing it but I’m also hoping if I can eventually get used to it in vr, it might help me learn to process the actual world easier too! (That might be a bit optimistic but you never know!).

My most exp ship is the T7 so above that I can't tell you, but the Dolphin has a closed cockpit, the T7 you can see the window in the bottom but it's not all that big.
