Please help me, multiplayer is red, "server unconnected?"

Hi Guys,

I just purchased the alpha and was really hoping to get into some multiplayer action; the only problem is, multiplayer is red for me, and I am receiving a "server unconnected" message. I did a little searching and made sure to allow Elite through my firewall. Still no go. Any and all help you can give me will be very greatly appreciated, I would very much like to get this working!

I have a dir-655 linksys router if that helps.

Thanks Guys,

I have a dir-645 and had to edit my AppConfig.xml in the Elite game folder to force a connection - it seems the router wasn't letting the game get my IP all the time - I would get connectivity occasional if I tried several times. You may have to take the same action. I found the instructions in the Alpha forum (PM Ashley Barley, or maybe it's Mark Boss now for Alpha Forum access if you don't have it yet.)

If you want a copy of my AppConfig.xml file, pm me with your email address and I'll send you it - all you'd have to do it copy it into your Elite game folder (back up the existing file by renaming it), then edit the file I send and change the IP (I'll mark it clearly for you) to your IP - if you need your IP, just type what's my ip in Google... :)

I'll watch for your PM or reply that you got it working. Welcome to Alpha!

this could just be a server side issue, i know at least one person who often streams via twitch was having the same problem last night.

It's a server issue in that, the server doesn't recognise your router.
I'm having the same problem and I am confident my router is set up correctly.
It's also a known issue, this is from the list of known issues :
Multiplayer/Connectivity
Unable to see other players that are in the same multiplayer session - Fixed (3.0)
Players being sent to empty multiplayer instances too regularly
Connection issues with a variety of routers
From this thread in the Alpha forum http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11385

So I would hope that Frontier will fix this at some point, ideally with the upcoming Alpha phase 3.

Until then, I can't do anything and will have to wait. It has been suggested to me to send a ticket to support, but 1. They know about this and 2. they are busy enough as it is.

I have a 655 so all is not lost. Make sure your WAN IP shows in router as your public IP (I had to change modem settings) and I opened port forwarding for port (19364 I believe?). Good luck!
