Please help me understand factions

So i was bounty hunting near Evarate, and using the KWS, i got some bounties in Empire space. Now, Eravate is Federation/Independent, and it seems that all the local stars in the galaxy map are also. How can i easily find some Empire space without going too far away from Eravate? I dont want to have to get too far away because thats where i like to hunt, but i spent almost 30 minutes in the galaxy map just trying to find Empire space.

Is there some online tool that i can use to find "closest X faction to X star"? I think a Factions filter in the galaxy map would help a lot.

Did you use the filters in the galaxy map? Change it to Allegiance and find the pretty blue system icons.
You could also try to find a station that is controlled by an Imperial faction but you'll need another CMDRs knowledge or make your own pain staking search.
Failing all this, save your Imperial bounties for when you're more likely to travel around. :)

Galaxy map indeed ^.^ Then go to 'view' Tab and in filters, under 'show by colour' clic the drop down menu, choose 'allegiance', and voilà.

Short answer is you can't. Mostly. It's complicated. A bit.

Occupied space is shared between the three major factions and each of them have (roughly) defined boundaries - the boundaries are fuzzy though and blur into each other a bit. This lump of systems are Federation, this one is Empire, these are Alliance. Generally speaking Federation space is centred around Sol, Empire around Achenar and Alliance around Alioth. Eravate is in Federation space, the systems around it are generally Federation. You will have to travel a bit to find Empire space.

You can use the galaxy map filters to highly systems of the major factions (look in allegiance). However, this tells you the faction controlling the system, there could well be an Imperial faction within an independent or even a Federation system. They may or may not own a station.

What is it you want to do?

Closest Empire system to Eravate (and Federation space in general) is usually considered to be Liaedin. It's probably less than 30ly from Eravate. There may be an Empire controlled station in some other system but these are found purely by chance or checking the system map for randomly selected systems.

I'm in a sticky wicket here. In the system I'm in there's own faction that wants to pirate the others and they are hostile to me now. In RES it seems that they seem to insta agro on me once i kill a few of them. I'm at the point where I can't make my 1 million due to being run out by a swarm of angry vipers, cobras and sidewinders.

Cobra is a great ship for travelling, especially if you get yourself a good scoop.
One of the interesting things about ED is how you can be fixated around a few familiar systems or get the wander lust bug. I was pretty localized at first (I still spend most of my time around my home system and neighbourhood) but you can also find yourself travelling 100s of LYs like it's nothing. If you're a complete nut job, you can even head off into the unknown.
Good luck in your travels and let us know if you do really return to Everate or find somewhere else even more appealing.

@ Lupis. Time to move on, maybe. Check your right UI and minor factions rep. I reckon you'll find that you're hostile to some of the systems factions. You'll have to decide whether this is good or bad for your game.

Yeah I guess it's time to move on. But LTT 15899 is a good spot (three res next to an outpost with an outfitter) I just don't know what systems near me will have RES's.
