Please help me understand PP2

1. I have tried undermining by mining, but I got zero credits for it. Can somebody please tell me if it was because I hadn't completed the 10 weekly assignments?

2. One of the weekly assignments is to collect biology samples, but I don't do on-foot stuff. Does that mean I can no longer ever again get PP merits?

3. Every time I return to my fleet carrier from mining, there is a scripted event, where I come under fire from an opposing power ship while trying to land. I tried shooting back at it, but was immediately blown up by my own FC. Is that right? Is this how they designed PP, that ships can shoot me, but I can't shoot them back?

This stickied thread will do a better job than I with the specifics, but to answer your question 1, you have to mine the ore your are using to undermine a system in that specific system, and the only thing that prevents you from seeing progress in your power is the first set of 5 assignments you get. If you are at 10 weekly assignments you are obviously past that point, so that leaves not mining the ore in the system as the likely culprit. For question 2, the initial assignments you get when you join the power are the only assignments you ever have to do. For your question 3, I won't bother explaining it when this thread exists, as I would not be as succinct.

I really appreciate the time you've taken to help me, but I'm still totally confused about mining. I posted in that thread that you linked and I left a question that was unanswered. Here it is. Can you figure out why I got no merits. I just mined 522T of platinum in Aisling's stronghold system, took it directly to the station in that system and sold it.

I don't really know, and I actually saw your post in the other thread too, but it didn't register in my brain for some reason, or I wouldn't have linked to you things you had already responded to! If I had to guess, maybe the stronghold system can't be further reinforced, so it doesn't care that you turned it in? I don't think that is currently the case for any stronghold other than Cubeo though (and as a home system that might play by its own rules, idk). I haven't personally mined a stronghold at all yet, so no personal experience to go buy. It is a bit confusing, and every time I think I have it figured out, something else pops up letting me know I don't have it figured out. The in game information from Pilot's Handbook and system map not only do a poor job of explaining it, but also make implications that just are not accurate. While I have not experienced any mining specific bugs (or suspected bugs, can't know if it isn't working correctly when they don't tell you how it is supposed to work), that could be your problem too.

Edit: It wasn't Cubeo which has no rings to mine, so far as I understand things, you should have gotten merits.

Ok, was building a core miner Cobra V and just finished up, so decided to check some stuff. I am pledged to LYR. I mined in one of his Stronghold systems and sold in that system and did get merits. I then took some of what I mined in the Stronghold system to an "in range" unoccupied system where selling it also gained me merits. It doesn't sound like you are pledged to the Princess though, and are trying to undermine her, so I then went to an Archer Stronghold system where I mined and then sold in that system and did get merits for undermining. It sounds like you experienced a bug, did something to get the game to no longer recognized what you mined as being mined from that system ("laundered" it through Fleet Carrier storage, as a potential example), or some other factor is at play (no clue if these would be relevant, actually doubt they would, but station demand for what you were selling, or your powers view of Aisling).

I'm pledged to ALD, mined in Aislings stronghold system (Paesia)and sold directly to the station - no FC involved, so I'm baffled, though everything about PP2 baffles me. I wish I could take the guy that deloped all this with me in my ship to explain what to do and how it works. Every Youtube video shows how to pledge and what you get from the powers, but none of them show you how to actually get anything.
